anyone else find it annoying when you're reading fan-translated manga, and you come across a phrase where they don't translate a word, and its assumed that everyone knows what that fuck that said word means due to their weeaboo tendencies?

examples: "aiya" (this could just be an onomatopoeia, but is sure comes up a lot), "hai", "oi", "ohayou", "seinkyuu" (granted it's not a Japanese word, it still pisses me off), "itadakimasu", and above all else "kawaii"

The point isn't me not knowing it, the point is them bleeding their weeaboo ways into something that's going to be "distributed" to the masses. Then again, I DO understand that most of the people that read manga downloaded from an IRC packlist bot are hip with the common Japanese phrases, it's still a faggoty thing to have something that you want to share with the world polluted with weeaboo phrases.

One might even imagine that this advice could apply to English as well.

so i've been reading Ichigo 100% as of late. definitely one of the better "harem" manga that i've read. a looot better than Love Hina (which i LOVE. god halp me love that manga. i know i shouldn't but i do.). wasn't really expecting much from an ecchi by a female mangaka, but it's actually really good. i love the way she draws, namely NISHINO TSUKASA-CHA~~~~~~N

For certain phrases that don't easily translate to English, it makes a certain degree of sense to leave them in Japanese. But most of those examples you cited are just stupid to leave untranslated.

Oh, your a part of the Internet spelling police. You should wear a badge or something.

Anyway, they translate for us. Maybe it is just something some of them leave in for 'lols', but I have not come across any in the manga I read.

More often than not, I will be correcting or affirming the attempts of others at Grammar/Spelling Policing. However, when you're wrong, you're wrong - and it does no good to anyone to ignore that fact.

Anyway, answering the initial question that sparked this: sometimes it's better to leave a term untranslated because it doesn't have a clear equivalent in the second language. "Itadakimasu" is a good example. The literal translation sounds awkward, so it works better to leave the original term with a translation note. Leaving things like "ohayou" or "kawaii" untranslated is just stupid though.
