The problem is that Sawao isn't differentiating himself from the pillows at all.
That might be difficult since Sawao is the God-Master of All Things in the pillows. Basically, he is the pillows. Notice how when Manabe and Jun do things on their own, it sounds nothing like the pillows (i.e. Sawao).
If you want to hear a band fronted by Yamanaka that doesn't recall the pillows' sound at all, you're probably fucked. He undoubtedly has a signature vocal and composing style, so it's hardly surprising, and I would argue not worth criticizing, that both the predators and the pillows bear the mark of his hand. Does this song have a lot of that trademark Yamanaka style? Yes. Is this the same as a pillows tune? Not by any means.
I actually thought Live Drive had a bit in common with the pillows' newer stuff that isn't so lead heavy. I'm thinking of the simplicity of a song like BOYS BE LOCKSMITH. I just find it a little odd that Sawao wouldn't have just written this song and set it for the next pillows single, perhaps as a b-side. I mean, does he really gain THAT much from playing with Jiro and Shinpei? I'll concede that the drums WERE pretty fierce, but I just don't see why Sawao decided to do this with The Predators.
If I were Sawao (that's the red flag indicating the rest of this post will be trash), I would keep doing by thing with the pillows, and see The Predators as my little "zone" where it's OK to do some darker, grittier stuff like Last Hunting. Now I'm not knocking three-piece Gt/B/Dr bands. They can be done really well (Sambomaster, anyone?), but I can't help but think Live Drive would be better with Manabe's presence.

Re: The Predators are BACK
I think most of the board would agree the pillows are in an entirely different class from the Predators. Yeah, it's great when the Predators do grittier stuff, too, but are we forgetting BAKUON DROP already? The Predators have their 3 chord pop rock side as well.

Re: The Predators are BACK
It looks as though Sawao's been watching NIN videos, only the song is too bland for the idea to actually work well.
Also, dude, product placement

Re: The Predators are BACK
That song had "PIED PIPER SONG LOL" written all over, I agree with GR, it would have been an awesome song for the pillows
I digged that song but felt dirty that Shin-chan and Manabe were nowhere to be found, The Predators should be Sawao's dark side, not "oh hey this sounds alot No Surrender/New Animal, doesn't it?"

Yeah, it sounds JUST like New Animal... ...if you're getting your eardrums fucked out by Manabe and Shin.

Re: The Predators are BACK
It sounds like a PIED PIPER song without Manabe and Shin, which is massive fail.

Re: The Predators are BACK
I don't think it does, especially not the chorus.

Re: The Predators are BACK
I take back my previous judgment and reserve mine for when we get our hands on the released mix.
based on the begining I think this might be a really cool song if the actual mixing brings the guitars out louder and sawao's voice down a notch. Hopefully it's youtube mixing that failed not the song's mixing.
and no, this doesnt sound like a pied piper track.

Re: The Predators are BACK
I don't think so either. It sounds like The Predators. If one of the only points on the subject is Sawao's vocals, then of course it sounds like the pillows a little, Sawao has a distinctive voice.

I don't know what you're talking about when you say it sounds like No Surrender either, they sound nothing alike. This song has more of a steady flow to it, the guitar sounds different, it's faster.
I'm not saying this song is fantastic, but I do like it, and I just don't think some of these comparisons are justified.

Re: The Predators are BACK
so despite not liking GLAY at all from what I've heard. (its either the big band choruses or the fact that the singer just sounds vapid.)
Jiro has inspired me to pick up a bass just with his style in the predators. Anyone know what model bass he uses so I know where to start my search for my bass? I like his bass' sound. (im not gonna start with his bass, its like wanting to pick up a guitar and looking at fenders first because your favorite bands use them.)
