I was totally crying a bit when I heard One Life live. But yeah, I think Sheer made my point better than I did.
He is swearing because he is very serious, and I don't see how it's funny. I usually only swear when I feel very strongly about something... the pillows, for example.
While I do take the pillows music seriously, I'm not being serious when I swear. It is, in this case, to add a bit of a comical atmosphere to the thread. I can be serious, but I have a pretty good sense of humor, I think.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
Hmmm.. haven't been here in a while. I've cried though.
It was last June, and my girlfriend dumped me the night before. I was depressed that whole day, so I thought the pillows would cheer me up. Direct opposite. I hadn't listened to the pillows for like 6 months, and Crazy Sunshine just brought tears to me eyes. Probably because it sounded amazing at that moment.

People are mocking somebody swearing... here? lol.
I've maybe cried a few times to pillows songs but it's been based on context, whether it hits at the right time or as something is happening or etc etc. The only time I can think of where a song made me inexplicably tear up when all I was doing was listening to the song was the first time I heard Fool on the Planet.

The only time I cried when listening to a song was with The Long and Winding Road (there was a lot of context, for sure). I've never cried to a pillows song, but I'll definitely do it when I see them play Strange Chameleon live someday (hopefully).
Girls don't cry.
Dammit Raid, you beat me to it. EDIT: So did Metal. No crying here...but there's just so many songs they have that give you that...feeling. You know the one. These would include One Life, Strange Chameleon, Swanky Street(heck yes) Hybrid Rainbow, Scarecrow.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
Ok, the mention of Strange Chameleon brings up something I've wanted to discuss with my fellow IMers. This is sort of in the area of the Song Meanings thread of yore, but I don't want to resurrect it. Let's look at the second to last verse, which is translated to:
If everything is a lie that’s made to look okay And the cat that I tamed was just hungry for food Even if it’s an illusion that bursts with the sound of a snap The palm of my hand is still warm
Does this really, actually hit you? I really like the imagery with the cat, but the overall message isn't really something I can jive with. I can't say "Yes, Strange Chameleon is INDEED the pillows' greatest song." I love it, and I think the rest of the song is spot on, with some great lyrics that I love (Dakiawase nandarou kodoku to jiyuu wa itsumo/Solitude and freedom are P\probably always part of the deal)...
But this one verse seems to break the cohesiveness. The message I get is this: Parts of your life experiences might not truly be as meaningful or real as you thought they were. Sometimes happiness can just be an illusion. However, it's OK, I still cherish the memories despite that.
It's always been a part of my way of thinking that it's always best when we have a full grasp of what's going on - of who's there to support us, who dislikes us, who has a romantic interest in us and why. If someone says they love you, you'd better believe they do, because if they're exaggerating or just saying it to better your mood, then that really blows. Doesn't it?
Ok, by now I think I've thought of a way to summarize it simply: In the song Strange Chameleon, Sawao expresses his acceptance of frontin' as a valuable part of one's life experience.
That's why I can't fully, thoroughly love Strange Chameleon. I think. Sometimes the illusion sucks. Pretending to have the real thing (whether it be love, a life changing experience, attainment of one's life goals) does NOT equal the satisfaction of knowing it's all real. It seems like Sawao is almost content living in a world of lies. Maybe he just realizes he is, and accepts that. But still, that verse doesn't sit well with me.
Did you guys interpret it differently? I think it's pretty clear. But I'd like to hear your thoughts. Sometimes it's easy to hear a song (especially in a language you don't understand) and claim "YES THIS SONG IS ENTIRELY HOLY". But then you critically think about the lyrics. And maybe the illusion bursts.

I agree with Rhino. Strange Chameleon isn't the pillows' greatest song, YAER!! is. The first time I saw Shin perform it, I totally bawled.

Re: The times you cried when listening to the pillows...
First of all, reading a ruliann translation is kind of like trying to guess a person's adult appearance by their first grade year book photo. Has anyone translated it to real English yet? No offense to that person, as it was invaluable having those translations for so long, but I think it's about time for some Marevamping. Perhaps one day he will be fluent, and will be able to churn out translations in less than two minutes (without a dictionary, of course).
Anyway, relevant to GR's discussion: That verse is probably the most cohesive and meaningful part of the whole song...so while I understand your disagreement with the point it is making, I don't quite agree with your opinion that it diverts from the original message of the song, or otherwise ruins it.
Just remember, a wise man once said: "My tail that doesn't tear too well is spiky."
Even if it’s an illusion that bursts with the sound of a snap The palm of my hand is still warm
I kinda felt like he meant that even though the illusion or experience was never real he learned a lesseon from it or still managed to get something out of it. Like whatever happened left an impression on him whether it was real or not. I really can't explain it.
