I mean, the entire fact there's a review of PP on a music site like that is pretty cool in itself. Take or leave my advice, either way I didn't mean to sound as mean as I might have.

Don't sweat. It's an opinion piece, after all.

ESH isn't a music site, though. It caters to anime and video games. I was hired by my friend to start a Japanese music section. Usually I don't do a track-by-track review of a CD (unless it's something as good and varied as, say, Asobi Seksu's "Citrus"), but I just felt like it this time.

The quote at the end of the pieces will change soon (no more "If it ain't made in Japan...," and instead the lyric "Ain't born to lose baby, I'm born to win, I'm so goddamn slick baby, it's a sin" from the QOTSA song "Misfit Love"). I have been coming across a lot more better American artists while working at a college radio station, so my Japan-only attitude has changed significantly. (BTW: Any fans of Matt Pond PA or The Gutter Twins?)

I cant stop listening to purple apple and poison rock'n'roll I love the lyrics and the style. they just ooze attitude! This album has so much attitude it is absolute secks. top 7 (Im omitting the songs that had singles)

Imo the only similarity between this album and their old stuff is that it's a fucking amazing release.

You're right to an extent, but there's more to a review than just one's impressions and opinion. There is also the matter of the quality of the writing, its literary style and whatnot. Yes, what should be called good writing and what should not can certainly be argued until the locusts come, but there are conventions, and for the sake of discussing the quality of anything subjective amongst individuals that's about all we've got.

Any case, i applaud rhino for making what appear to be genuine attempts at constructive criticism (although some of the other less constructive and more mean-spirited comments ones may not have been necessary). And omnistry, thanks for taking the criticism with a level head instead of lashing back, it makes reading the forums much nicer when folks conduct themselves more reasonably. As for the review, ya, there's a lot there a good English teacher might be able to help with (not so much grammatically as stylistically), but still, good job writing a review in the first place, and besides, that's how you'll improve the most - actually buckling down and making some thoughts into text.


Oh, and what's with all of the 10s in people's reviews? I mean i guess it's fine and all if you really think that's the best a song can get, but why not leave a little room for improvement...

My favorite song on the whole album is Tokyo Zombie. I love every song, my least favorite being Purple Apple (which i still like) but wow, Tokyo Zombie is amazing.
