Post Computer Troubles
Hallo IM, I'm experiencing a few problems with my computer. I hope you can help me with my problem. This is not a demand to help me, nor am I expecting you to. It would be much appreciated if you did tho.

After resetting my computer, it began starting up like usual, but when it got to the log in screen, or where it would normally be, it only displayed the cursor. I'm still able to log in and open programs, but it is impossible to tell what exactly I am doing. I have only the cursor to go by, which changes appearance like usual (like changing from an arrow to a hand, or to the pencil in MS Paint which I managed to open)

I have no Idea what is causing this. I built my computer, so I can't use customer support. It uses Windows XP service pack 2. I dunno what else to say. :dead:

A lot of people would post on a tech support forum or a specialized Yahoo! group, looking for a response from a tech expert or someone else who had previously had the problem.

mmm You are able to see only the cursor? So that means that the backround is white? Or black? Try rebooting in safe mode. If it still shows that then it's not a virus but a failure in your hardrive. Maybe a screen of the problem might help better understand it. Or run the chkdsk /R thing on the run command or on the cmd thing-y

- Press F8 while it's booting, go into Safe Mode.
- Press F1 after logging in to bring up the Help and Support Center.
- Click "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore".
- Restore to a date earlier than the problems started happening.

I managed to boot in safe mode, as instructed by Metal ( )

A virus scan from Spy Sweeper and Ad-Aware turned up nothing.

I tried booting with "Last known good configuration" and it seems to be working fine now (except that Firefox changed back to the default theme and I lost all my bookmarks )

I wish I knew what exactly caused my problem... O well. Thanks for the help IM.

You should download trojan scanner/remover not sure which of both is name. It scans the computer clean of everything. I use it when most virus protection programs can't detect viruses. It works with programs running already. You should also get "crap cleaner" clean the crap out of your system. The things you don't need or things that are wasting memory.
