Post Looking for the right sound
okay, so here's my situation: i currently have a fender standard tele because that's what I was told to get at first since I wasn't sure what type of music I was going to play. (sorry long sentence there) Now that i've figured out that I want to master kool spice/living field first, I was looking into trading in my tele for a epiphone DoT or equivalent. I'm not looking to throw down big bucks for a gibson, and this is just a hobby for personal leisure.

My questions are:
1) would I be okay with pretty much any semi-hollow body electric guitar, or are there any that stick out in the 250-500 range to you guys.
2) I looked into the epiphone Dot and the reviews said that the only thing needed was upgraded p'ups. are there any that you recommend for the clean/warm sound that these albums have?
3) I have a Vox ad30vt amp. Will this be okay for the tone that i will be wanting?

finally.. i'm totally a newb, so if any of these are dumb then let me know. I need to learn more about guitar equip/lingo..etc.

thanks IM!

With that amp you won't notice any difference out of new pick-ups. But anyways I'd say to still go with the Epiphone Dot, I'm sure you'll enjoy it's tone just fine.

I'd think you'd still notice a different sound with totally different/upgraded pickups. :eh:

^Not entirely, you would hear a very slight change in tone but even then it's extremely minimal as the amp is coloring your tone and in this case it's a modeling amp so even less of a difference will be heard. The only big difference you'd notice is loads of feedback and muddiness if you were to throw something like active EMGs into it (something you should never do to a semi-hollow). :dead:

Epiphone Dot is cool...

The Epiphone Casino is also awesome.

id look into an ibanez artcore. ibanez' are a LOT higher quality than people give them credit for, and always at an outsanding price.

Also, the super thin necks are pretty sweet.

Personally, I dislike the general look though.

If anything personally I'd go for an Agile but currently they only have their SX semi-hollows in stock so I can't link the Agile version, but pretty much Agile>Epiphone any day.

insanely catchy riff, but mostly just showing the RIDICULOUS playability of ibanez semi-hollow bodies. thats a pretty sexy design.

what im thinking of actually doing is saving some money and waiting it out a bit to when i know more about music. I honestly don't know that much and wouldn't want to make a hasty decision. i will hit this thread up again once that time comes though!

Image isn't loading, but I google imaged "ibanez artcore," and that's a rather pretty guitar. I guess I've only ever seen the ugly pointy things they make for the most part.
