Re: iPhone
But Blackberries aren't trendy. Unless you routinely wear suits. And if you've ever seen an Apple ad, the suits are the bad guys.
That reminds me of this horrible stating-the-obvious media literacy class I'm in right now as a general-ed requirement. I'm good for a conversation on that stuff, but a whole class on it starts to get mind-numbing when most of it should be obvious. While it sort of clashes with the fact that I want an iPhone and have a Powerbook, I can't stand the fact that people have bought so entirely into Apple's marketing. It's mind-numbingly hard to get an iPod lover to even acknowledge the existence of other mp3 players. I want an iPhone for the cool techy gadget side of it, largely due to that multi-touch stuff. I'll be one of the few people who keep it in their pockets instead of walking around with the logo showing at all times going up to everybody I see saying "look at this cool Apple product I have."

Re: iPhone
I have a crappy Sandisk Sansa m240 1gb mp3 player, but it has an equalizer, is durable, and comfortable fits in the palm of my hand. It's perfect for my uses and doesn't hinder me when I go running. Another plus is that I don't worry about dropping it because it's both a) Durable and b) Not two or three hundred dollars.
Ipods aren't for everyone.

Re: iPhone
I got my iPod off of seeing how durable they have been for friends of mine that have them, but it seems that the iPod video is a piece of crap, because mine died and had to be replaced by Apple within the first four months of me having it, and a friend who got one had the hard drive fail about three months after getting it, only to have them take almost an entire month to fix/replace it. I'm sticking with it for now, but as soon as it dies (since they only give you one year of a warranty), I'm going to get something better (I'll just ask a friend who's really into gadgets as to what mp3 players he'd recommend as being the best quality, lol).
As for iPhones vs. Blackberries, I think Blackberries are way cooler. I don't really get all excited by a touch screen, we've kinda had those for a while and they're just annoying after a certain point, while having actual buttons is just a lot more convenient for quick writing and such. If I were to ever need that kind of cell phone, I'd definitely go for a Blackberry (or something similar, if there is anything) over an iPhone.

Re: iPhone
There's a flood of Blackberry-ish and iPhone-ish phones coming out over the next few months, so there will be a ton of choices. I thought the touch screen stuff was stupid and gimmicky at first, but after spending a bit of time with a friend's iPhone, the multi-touch stuff really won me over, especially since it's the only phone on the market that has that technology. The menu system and programs for it are also unparalleled, has the best audio/video playback for a phone (that is until Creative releases a phone lol), far and away the best internet browser, and the biggest homebrew community. Those are really the things I want some cool techy device for so I'm probably going to go iPhone. But yeah, the lack of tactile buttons is the one drawback for me. I find I type fast as hell on a numpad-type phone keyboard, I'm rather slow with an actual tiny QWERTY keyboard with my massive freaking fingertips. The iPhone keyboard is surprisingly good, though I will have to abandon touch-typing like I mentioned before, which is unfortunate, but the other cool factors balance it out, methinks (or I may curse my decision two months after, we'll see ) As far as mp3 players go, iPods are okay for Joe MP3, but there are better-sounding players with more features out there for the same price. Edit: I feel bad for Sprint. They just rolled out a mega-expensive line of advertising, bashing the iPhone's lack of 3G and GPS... less than one month before the iPhone is upgraded to have just that.
