HSS gives the best of both worlds. period. So you can toy with your options a lot
Not necessarily. For rock guitar, most people typically only use the bridge pickup, and if not exclusively, it's still one of the most important pickup positions.
I have an HH (Les Paul), and I have more options than an HSS will ever have (i.e. 12 or so), yet there are still a number of desirable sounds I just can't get.

true, i mean idk, i have an HH set up on my ibanez with 5 different positions on my pick up switch, dunno the names of them but i knwo what sound im looking for when i change them. but HSS gives a nice "trial" so to speak of many differnt forms and you can get to feel for both a humbucker and single coils, would you agree?

Right now I'm kinda torn lol. I currently have a Gibson SG Special (older model so it's not crap). But I'm definitely looking towards getting a Fender Telecaster Plus over the summer. Then again I'm feeling the draw is more towards it's potential with it's hardware rather than just because it's a telecaster (I've become a big Radiohead/Jonny Greenwood fan and the tones he can get out of the Plus just amaze me).

I think this thread is kinda useless and going off-topic. What are we talking about when we say "which is better"?
Worksmanship? Quality? Wood? Electronics?
It's all personal taste in my opinion. What you regard as total shit might be another man's dream guitar. Play whatever you want to; it's your choice, and without competition from other companies, we'd all be playing the same guitar.
And how boring would that be? Variety ftw.

Re: Fender vs. Gibson
Did somebody say MIM offsets??!!??!?!?!? I can finally afford one. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=518687http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=518688There are some differences, but I like them. I want one. Even if you can get a used American or Japan for the same, maybe a little more.

Those differences look pretty significant...and helpful. All of the improvements look good, mostly the adjusto-matic brdige. I'm about to get a Warmoth modded mustang bridge for my JM. The hotter pickups may be either good or bad, depending on who you are...
One thing struck me as odd: "A screw in tremolo arm increases stability and control when executing divebombs."
Who the hell buys a Jazzmaster and divebombs?

Haha, hxc muzik iz all about da Jazzmaster.
I love the price. I like the TOM bridge and the colors. But they moved the trem which will affect the signature jangly sound. I'm not really one for high output pickups, they vary for me, some are good some are bad. I mostly prefer moderate outputs, but that's nothing a pup swap can't change...
Either way, I like them, I'd probably go with the Jag over the Jazz, but I dunnno yet.

Re: Fender vs. Gibson
Pardon my ignorance in pedals and effects, but I was wondering, what is the effect used in all of The Pillows's older music (Pantomime, Moon Gold, White Incarnation, etc.) that sounds sorta like a reverb, but not completely. It's heard perfectly in manabe's intro of the "Something Else" version of Liberty.
What is that sound called?!

Re: Fender vs. Gibson
yeah, and especially in Kanojo wa SHISUTA, right? Sounds sooo glassy. I wanna say it's like...light chorus, but I don't have much experience with chorus pedals so that's probably wrong.
Good question. Anyone?

Re: Fender vs. Gibson
Gibson guitar don't have enough bite, for my style of playing. They always have more mids and a rounder sound.
I really like fender. They just have more twang and bite.
Of course, it all depends on what you play, etc.

Re: Fender vs. Gibson
I was too lazy to read all the pages, so I'm gonna cut to the chase. Everybody here most likely plays an insturment so they can play Pillows stuff, however alot of people get this mixed up. Sawao's guitar is not Fender Cyclone. They do exsist, but he and Manabe as well before the custom shop, used Fender Mustangs. A look alike of Sawaos is my avatar. Just helping everybody out, thats all. (and please dont criticize me for "not knowing what I'm talking about", cause Ive played guitar for welll over 4 years now.) But all in all, Fender seems like a much better brand than Gibson. Even though Gibson offers iconic guitars such as the Explorer and Flying V, they dont seem as 'friendly'(?). Since Gibson's lawsuit against the Guitar Hero people. They did agree to use the guitars in game, so that really makes me lean away from Gibson.

But, it's definitely listed in the Band Scores book that he does use one.

1. Sawao's guitar is a Fender Cyclone. Take a closer look at the ten BAJILLION live videos floating around, maybe download a vid in higher quality so you can look at the fucking headstock and body a bit more. IT'S A CYCLONE.
2. We will criticize you for not knowing what you're talking about, I don't give a damn how long you've been playing guitar, it doesn't make you any less wrong.
3. No.

Re: Fender vs. Gibson
I kinda wanna say "calm down Mare, dont alienate the newb..." but you're totally right.
Mustangs are Mustangs and Cyclones are Cyclones. Manabe used a Mustang and Sawao used a Cyclone. Mustangs are not Cyclones.
I'll give you a dollar for every picture you can show me with Sawao holding a Mustang in his hands.
