I'm sure that it's more enjoyable to see a crowd of people start jumping up and down singing along to "hybrid rainbow" than to see a few superfans creaming themselves to "Cherry".

or would you rather have them feel forced into playing older stuff in fear of angry letters?
Oh believe me, I'm fully aware of this. This is why the situation has no easy answer.

In a perfect world, pillows fans of all types would educate themselves, and listen to the rest of (or at least a decent portion of) the pillows' discography aside from the "FLCL tracks". There needs to be a good balance of FLCL crowd-pleasers and solid pillows tracks of (semi, not really) old. Unfortunately, in the present situation (95% of everyone screaming "RIDE ON SHOOTING STAHH! BEAUTIFUL MORNING WITH YOUUUU!!!!), it's not gonna happen.
well then you'll be pleased to hear that at the NY show, in between almost every song there were scores of people shouting out. "Swanky street!" "Juliet!" "Thank you my twilight!" "Beautiful Picture!" during like... every pause.

hopefully they'll play some more older ones during the next tour. However, judging from century creepers. the FLCL tracks still get the best responses from audiences.
Yeah, I was screaming swanky street and shiroi natsu along with this kid next to me.

Haha yeah, I wish they did play Shiroi natsu, Beautiful Picture, Happy Bivouac, or Sono Mirai xD But still, the NY concert was amazing, I love the new stuff too.
Well, the pillows sure haven't forgotten how to play Cherry. Or Girls Don't Cry. or Like a Lovesong (back to back). Or Shiroi. OR KANOJO WA KYOU, STRANGE CHAMELEON, SWANKY STREET, OR EVEN FRICKIN' DAYDREAM WONDER.

They did it for Japan in the LOSTMAN GO TO YESTERDAY tour, they can do it for us. But then again, we Americans just stare dumbly if we're hearing Japanese songs that weren't in an anime series.

The fault lies in the majority of American pillows fans. More of us need to start shrugging at Ride On Shooting Star, and writing letters saying things like: "I HEARD YOU PLAYING CHERRY DURING YOUR SOUND CHECK. WE WOULD LIKE SOME OF THAT TOO. THANKS."
Dude, you couldn't have put it any better than that. xD

MOD EDIT: Please avoid double-posting, kthx.
Love, Mare

We should get someone to write a letter in japanese telling them that Americans love the Pillows but are bored with FLCL. Hm, Mare?

I don't think anybody's "bored" per se with FLCL-era music. Some of their best music was a part of that and it could never be boring. I think what they need to do, and I've said it before, is just not limit themselves to playing the same things we've been hearing, but to mix it up with stuff from most of their expansive discography.

Which is basically what I meant in an elaborative paragraph.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. I love the FLCL stuff and it's never gotten boring, but like you both said, I know everyone here wants to hear Cherry or Swanky Street live, and I wish they wouldn't limit themselves, but hey, every concert they played in the US is always amazing.

I think terra might have more weight, being the admin of the American fan site, but if nothing else, if somebody knows an email address that I could use to actually reach the pillows about this sort of information (I'm looking at you, terra and/or Mellie), and PM'd it to me, I'd be glad to write a blurb about how much we'd love to see a more varied set after three tours of the same general shows.
i was pretty unhappy with the crowd during the pillows concert, besides the first 10 rows, the rest of the crowd were pretty dull...
I was in the 10th or 11th row, and most of the people around me were just standing like statues :? Compared to Luv and Response, the crowd reaction wasn't drastically different. The people on the balcony FAIL too..well there was this one girl in a school uniform cosplay on the right side and she rocked. Then a few people joined her later on, so that was cool to see too..

And because of Easter, I couldn't go to the Panel and Autograph session. I shall loathe my parents for all eternity

Lastly, a question: Would it have been more costly to have noodles as the opening act instead of L&R? 'cause obviously they were on tour together and are THE SAME GENRE

I did write a letter that included something like that a while ago...

You could possibly email Chie (I can pm you the email)... that's the only thing I can think of.

Sure. I really wanted to bring it up to them after the SF show, but due to having to catch a train, I didn't get to hang around to talk to them.

+1

Think about it, it means no Hybrid Rainbow, no One life, no Last Dinosaur. Even Little Busters. :o

I love all their music, just some expansion would be nice. I hope no one is bored literally.

OMG IT'S BEEN A WEEK AND I HAVEN'T PUT MY TWO CENTS IN!

Okay, so yeah. I saw Shen Long and Pillowsfan05 there, it was great! Even though I stood in line on Friday for 7+ hours just to get into the bloody convention, I got in line (and hung out around the hall) since 10 am that morning. I even had my friend fetch me foods. I didn't see you, terra. That makes me sad, I think you were avoiding me. ;_;

But anyway, I stood in line for a while and my friends that walked by were like "WHOA CHRISTINA WHAT ARE YOU DOING" and got in line with me even though I kind of didn't want them to. Two of my friends totally cut the line to get into the convention and got their badges in 30 minutes while my boyfriend never got out of the reg line so he could see the pillows. I was like "Okay I'll wait." and he got all angry like "YOU ARE GOING TO SEE THE PILLOWS NO MATTER WHAT OMG DO NOT GET OUT OF LINE DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME JUST GO SEE YOUR FAVORITE BAND" and told my friend Ben to make me stay there. My other friend was dressed like Officer Jenny from Pokemon and she stood in line with me too. Anyway, I called Pillowsfan05 and then he showed up and got in line with me and it was chill.

Then when we finally got into the concert hall, and all that anime stuff happened (Jenny and I kept rolling our eyes because it was all lame), that band came on. The dancing fashion models. lol Luv and Response. I hated them at first because like... the pillows were so close yet so far away. But then they kind of grew on me, but I still don't like them. They changed their clothing too much. Anyway, then the pillows came on and everyone knows how awesome that was. Too bad I was too short to see them on the stage most of the time. I was singing to every single song though. :3 and Jenny and I were dancing like the whole time! twas awesome. My friend Ben (who has been following me around since last year at every convention, it's okay though because he's from the all boys school that collaborated with my old school), turned to me during Carnival and goes "This song has words?" as a joke and I almost slapped him. Jenny and I kept trying to think of songs for them to play (but we wanted them to by one word so if we shouted them, it wouldn't sound distorted) so we were yelling "LIBERTYYYYY". lol

Finally I left before they played Funny Bunny... Jenny and I ran out and she was going to take my Pml booklet upstairs to get it autographed while I got merchandise. Fortunately, I got the t-shirt of Buster-kun with glasses and 2 black Buster-kuns and 2 glowing Buster-kuns. Some kid kept hitting on me in line and chased me down to get my myspace and IM and stuff and I thought he was creepy but I gave him one of my lesser used screennames and it turned out he's not that creepy... still don't trust him though.

Then I met up with my boyfriend upstairs on the third floor and I was looking for the autograph room... my boyfriend describes me "I have never seen someone run in so many different directions at the same time". I found Pillowsfan05 and he let me hop into line with him (I don't know how much I could thank you, lol). I saw the pillows walk by and I acted like I was swooning and my boyfriend was like lol whatever.

My boyfriend wasn't interested so he went to look at gundams or something idk. They asked for people with official pillows merchandise only and I was like "I have one!" with the pml booklet and the stupid lady didn't recognize it until someone else said it was official. wtf. lol Anime Boston workers...

When we got into the NEXT line, pillowsfan05 took pictures for me because I was shaking and the pictures came out bad. I went up to Shin-chan and was like "Sign here" and pointed the Manabe by accident on the booklet. :x then Manabe signed it and I didn't get to say anything to him. Finally, I got Sawao to sign it and I was like "you're my favorite" and he smiles and I look awkward and then I'm like "Come to Boston again sometime!" and he's like "WE WILL" it was so cute. I wanted to melt. I shook his hand!

I was wayyy too excited when I got out of there. lol  I know I probably did something embarassing or said something I'd regret though... I'm not good when I'm nervous, but this was a great day.

tl;dr AWESOME WEEKEND... and I've had the flu all week since then.
