Not really any good pics, since they were all 'you can take pics but stay in your seat...'

I wish we'd arranged some kinda IM get together beforehand... but I had no way to check the forum after I left - I didn't wanna pay the fee for the internet connection at the hotel.
(some song I didn't recognize.. it sounded like he was saying 'hello mr groovy' a lot)
"Mr. Droopy," which is another new song, I guess. (Thanks to Kurisu)

Well, the pillows sure haven't forgotten how to play Cherry. Or Girls Don't Cry. or Like a Lovesong (back to back). Or Shiroi. OR KANOJO WA KYOU, STRANGE CHAMELEON, SWANKY STREET, OR EVEN FRICKIN' DAYDREAM WONDER.

They did it for Japan in the LOSTMAN GO TO YESTERDAY tour, they can do it for us. But then again, we Americans just stare dumbly if we're hearing Japanese songs that weren't in an anime series.

The fault lies in the majority of American pillows fans. More of us need to start shrugging at Ride On Shooting Star, and writing letters saying things like: "I HEARD YOU PLAYING CHERRY DURING YOUR SOUND CHECK. WE WOULD LIKE SOME OF THAT TOO. THANKS."

maybe they enjoy playing those songs here in america?

I'm sure that it's more enjoyable to see a crowd of people start jumping up and down singing along to "hybrid rainbow" than to see a few superfans creaming themselves to "Cherry".

or would you rather have them feel forced into playing older stuff in fear of angry letters?

its a treat for The Pillows to play in america in the first place. If you REALLY want to get those songs live go to Japan to see them.

the other songs will come if they become more famous here as artists than musicians for anime shows. But how to do get that isnt to downplay the stuff that ended up in anime, but rather up play the other stuff that is like that.

"oh you like blues drive monster from FLCL? you should hear Juliet!"

not

"oh it's so typical for someone to like blues drive monster, come back when you listen to their other music."

Chill... it was kind of a joke on Sawao's part. >_>

I was pretty happy when they played 'One life'.

i was pretty unhappy with the crowd during the pillows concert, besides the first 10 rows, the rest of the crowd were pretty dull. It didnt help that the Anime Boston had a seating arrangement for the performance, but it was the only way to keep order with such a large crowd. where were you sitting during the concert terra?

Man, after reading their setlist, I'm bummed that I had to leave the concert early and before the pillows came out. I had to leave to interview tokyo pinsalocks. But, I got to have my band score signed by the band (who all seemed amazed by it) and shake Sawao's hand during the autograph session after the show though, which was AMAZING. So, it kinda made up for it...kinda.

I actually spotted Jun (the manager) as they were setting up the merch stand. Being the stalker that I am, I managed a picture. I also managed to take a picture of Jun (the bassist) while he stood outside the autograph session with who I assumed to be a bunch of roadies. It was funny looking back at it, because I called out his name loudly multiple times to try and get his attention and possibly his autograph, yet no one picked up on who he was. He saw my band score and seemed to be genuinely surprised. Too bad he wasn't outside when I left the autograph session, I probably would have tried to get his autograph again.

Oh, and I wasn't able to make Sunday's Q&A due to work. Sounded like it went well.

Glad I was able to see Kurisu again, but didn't catch the other IMers. I agree with terra that we should have put something together beforehand, but, hopefully next time.

Overall, pure awesomeness. Hopefully, they'll come back to Boston in a non-anime-convention-with-hellishly-long-lines fashion.

BTW, LUV & RESPONSE = AMONG THE WORST PILLOWS OPENING BANDS EVER. PERIOD.

My sentiments exactly. Maybe it would've been better to ask why couldn't they play songs from the LGTY tour. And you know, it doesn't even have to be older songs. I wouldn't mind hearing Sono Mirai wa Ima or Babylon Tenshi no Uta, even Gazelle City! I don't think they should limit themselves to just playing things that they think we've heard. I mean, look at New Animal and Mr. Droopy. From the videos I've seen on Youtube, the crowd response looked and sounded good. You'd think they could do the same thing with Cherry or something.

I've been to plenty of concerts for bands that I sorta like, only know a few songs by them, yet they come out with songs that I've never heard before and I'm rocking out just as hard becuase it sounds good. It shouldn't matter if people haven't heard certain songs, the pillows don't need to limit themselves to 1/10th of their discography because of that. I'm not saying "Oh just play all non-FLCL stuff", that'd be dumb, we know that. I just think wanting a mix of songs is well within our rights as fans.

Yah I said that even if they added one older song into their setlist, a lot of fans would appreciate it, but Im not sure if the person translated that part for them.

lul

They weren't unbearably terrible but yeah, I was like... OMG when will it be over?!?!?

@pillowsfan05: I was in the middle sort of, in the first row of the back half... right where the aisle was. There were scattered groups of people in the back bobbing/dancing actually. At least the crowd was way more lively than they were during L&R... teehee. There were people that got out in an aisle and started dancing at one point during the pillows until the convention staff beat them back into their seats. ;)

i felt extremely bad for luv and response, they definitely played for the wrong type of audience considering most people were younger than 18, and everyone was expecting rock music.
Runway models+runway music+singing=epic disaster

Oh believe me, I'm fully aware of this. This is why the situation has no easy answer.

In a perfect world, pillows fans of all types would educate themselves, and listen to the rest of (or at least a decent portion of) the pillows' discography aside from the "FLCL tracks". There needs to be a good balance of FLCL crowd-pleasers and solid pillows tracks of (semi, not really) old. Unfortunately, in the present situation (95% of everyone screaming "RIDE ON SHOOTING STAHH! BEAUTIFUL MORNING WITH YOUUUU!!!!), it's not gonna happen.

well then you'll be pleased to hear that at the NY show, in between almost every song there were scores of people shouting out. "Swanky street!" "Juliet!" "Thank you my twilight!" "Beautiful Picture!" during like... every pause.

hopefully they'll play some more older ones during the next tour. However, judging from century creepers. the FLCL tracks still get the best responses from audiences.

There weren't really a lot of people calling out for FLCL songs at the con... it's possible there were people screaming things I couldn't hear, but I heard just one person scream for Hybrid Rainbow.

At NY, I heard someone shout, "90's My Life." Sawao laughed.
