LONG POST REVIEW:

Well, I got to the city around 12:30/1:00. We went to check the venue, then went to check the restaurant we would eat at.
We walk to times square and shop a bit. Check out numerous stores, streetside tables, etc.

FAST FORWARD

We eat at the Primehouse New York, probably the fanciest place I'll ever eat at in my life. We chose there because it is owned by a man my dad always plays for with his band, so he offered us a meal on him.
It was almost TOO fancy...but obviously delicious.

FAST FORWARD

We get to the venue around quarter after 6. NO ONE expected the turnout. The line, by that time, had went from the venue, down the street, wrapped the corner, down that block, wrapped the corner, and 3/4 down that street. It was amazing. Regardless of my placement on the line however, I was able to claim a spot one person from the front, right in front of Manabe since that's where my brother headed first...I kinda regret not being in front of Jun, but...
Anyway, about halfway through the show, my little brother, struggling t osee from behind the asian in front of him, was moved to the very front by the bouncer/security guy.
Anyway...starting from the beginning, the noodles were pretty damn good. I've only heard a few songs previously, but she has a very unique style(guitarist). She sings very well too. I liked her voice. THey played maybe 7 or 8 songs? She used a mustang, the same Marshall as Manabe, and a BD-2 and MXR Micro Amp from what I could see.
So they leave, pleading for people to come see them in Brooklyn, which I would've if it wasn't Brooklyn. Manhatten>Brooklyn...

Then the pillows come on...Jun came out with his base in his case, Sawao with his guitar, then Manabe, they take a bit to set up and then head backstage again. THe stage guy, for the venue I assume, was funny. Everyone was cheering for him...'yeah stage guy! Plug in those wires!' and he'd go backstage and stick out his flashlight and wave it around.
So the pillows come out, open with I THink I Can. I won't go through every song since the setlist is posted....
It was an amazing show. 2 unreleased songs...
The venue, unlikne the Knitting Factory, had zero tolerance for ANY moshing/crowd surfing, which I loved. The pillows were great, really energetic, Sato did look a bit bored... Manabe was enthused, Sawao, enthusiastic as always, Jun was even pretty happy to be there.
Sawao told his misquito story of how he was bitten by misquitos last time he was here, and Jun, in the same room, was not...maybe he was popular.
So they finished up, came out for two encores, but Sawao was really tired. Great show though, great show. New Animal sounded great, but Mr. Droopy even better!

I left at like 11. THey still hadn't come out, and when my mom asked, the lady said they had already left through the side door...

So we left. On the way out of the venue, we were waiting around inside, prohibited, but I'm a badass. We waited until they kicked us out, but my brother and I were interviewed by a crew guy and he said give a message to the pillows! So hopefully I'll make it to the next DVD. That'd be amazing.

I saw Overburn, but didn't introduce my self. You were out in front of the Duane Reede that was like next door. You went inside as I was leaving, so I could'nt introduce myself...I saw you in the concert too, you were like between Sawao and Manabe.
Mr. Lostman, I was banking on joining you in that long line, but I couldn't find you. :(

So pros were:
both bands were great
no obnoxious fans really...
got all the merch
might be on the next dvd
ALMOST got a pic...it landed right near my brother, but the asian in front of me swooped it up practically from his hands. :( )
Great area as compared to where we were on line
I saw overburn
lots of pics/vids
good venue
bigger turnout...maybe next year concert instead of two years! or sooner?
pretty srue I got a smile from Sato and Manabe

Cons:
the mix for the noodles was kind of poor. the bassdrum overtook the bass...
no signed things/pictures with anyone

So you see, the pros outweighed the cons tremendously. Great day. I am still recouperating.

I got lots of pics, and 2 vids of each. The security was pretty tight about video taping, so I didn't want to risk the loss of the camera for the rest of the show.
I just got back, It was almost a 7 hr drive each way :o. I got there around 3:30-4 and there was already 15-20 people in line. I saw a few people from IM. the show was awesome! I don't think I need to go into detail about how orgasmic manabe was. I was 2 or 3 people back in front of him. when the pillows came on stage everybody pushed forward crushing everyone at the front. then a song or two in sawao, like the genius he, is told everyone to push forward even more. a double whammy of crushing ensued :(. despite that I still had a good time. the song they played after new animal was the "mister droopy" song. I got pillowsfan05 (I think that's his username) to record the second half of it. after the show I waited around to get my guitar signed, but I ended up leaving at 11:30 because I couldn't wait any longer.
The rule is this: If you have a problem with being crushed/abused, get in the back. It's really confusing how many people are all like, "I'm getting crushed, WTF?" That's half the point (Sawao was right), and the exact reason there were chairs in the back. I'm not directing this at Overburn, but what he said reminded me to point this out.

The old man in the front row was Randy from North Carolina! We had met him and made a deal to protect him and his son during the intense pushing...in return he got us all shirts before the show. Pretty funny dude, he looked like he was getting pounded the whole night though because he was so small. Apparently he plays drums while his son covers pillows songs....here's one....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM4a4vQXJZU.

The show was freaking awesome! I like how Sawao told everyone to come more closer to the stage... He was like Jesus or something when he did that.

My friends and I waited until like 12:30 for them to come out but we gave up.
She used a mustang
She uses a Fender Cyclone. At least, that's what she was using in SF. 3TS Fender Cyclone. She was directly in front of me, I could read the headstock rather clearly lols.

This is one of those reasons why I appreciate GR's videos so much...I don't mean to criticize, and I won't go into details, but yeah - new videos, please.

Edit: Although that is kind of cute how they play pillows songs together.

Yeah my bad. I was staring at thje cyclone image on the headstock for half the show, dunno why I said mustang.

Do they come stock with the HB or did she put that in? I rather liked her tone.

Pics and vids from me are on the way.

More so pics. Stupid security. The guy was like right next to me, so if he saw record on my camera, it woulda been all over. I sneaked it in a few times, but I'm a bitch and was too afraid to do it after the guy got caught.

EDIT: THis was my first time hearing most of their songs so I couldn't tell you. Sorry.

Hopefully I'll do Swanky Street soon. I don't want to bring shame to the solo.
Maybe Walkin' On the Spiral...ooh, PATRICIA.

I know why: because the Cyclone is yet another Fender guitar that isn't the Stratocaster and Telecaster, which all blend together in insignificance. It's an honest mistake.

Cyclones come with a humbucker. I would say the majority of the good tone comes from the amplifier she used, which would make any guitar sound good.

Anyway, the Noodles guitarist was disinteresting to me - I would best describe her (soloing) style as "Manabe on fail." The songs weren't bad, though, is my first impression.

Thaaanks. Really, I think people are too scared to give Noodles a little criticism. Many of their songs (middle era) are pretty good to listen to through headphones. But their new songs are just a bit TOO simple, and could use some more kick. The solos could use some spice, indeed.

Yeah, that I did notice. A majority of the songs verse's were going back in forth on 2/3 chords or power chords...

I would never compare Yoko to Manabe.

You've got to be kidding me.

You've obviously not read enough of Fuzz Hill to know that we all think Junko should come back and that the last two albums were mediocre at best

The Fender Mustang and Fender Cyclone both share the same body shape. That's why you confused the two.

I know the people who care most about Noodles feel that Shakespeare and Metropolis were lacking, and that pretty much everyone wants Junko back. I just think it's weird that you went to the LA show -- knowing that you don't really like the pillows in their current state, and that Noodles recent work is pretty lack-luster. You tryin' to hide something? ITT, Jedi is in love with My Foot and Tokyo Bambi?
