Other than the unnecessary electronic stuff tossed on over the top of the solo of Tokyo Bambi, this is an AMAZING single. With this and Ladybird girl, if they keep building off of this, the next album is going to be absolutely AWESOME. The lead guitar is really good, the bass is really good, the vocals are great, and the melodies are (as usual) addictive. Across the Metropolis was especially beatuiful; I'm looking out of a sixth floor window at a clear blue sky while listening to it, and it's great. It has that same sort of subtle beauty that shiroi natsu has.

I caved and listened to the single once.
Tokyo Bambi is great, especially hearing it in non-YouTube sound. Having real horns is great, the bassline is badass, and I'm not even hating the rather uninspired solo anymore. I sort of wish they hadn't added those electronic sound effects, but whatever.
I'm still not crazy about Go Go Jupiter. It's pretty much your generic J-Pop song. That doesn't mean it's bad, it's a perfectly okay song, but I find it really forgettable.
Across the Metropolis was a pleasant surprise. It's not the most complex song around technically, but it's got a really great feel to it, mellow and awesome.
Overall I like it a lot. TB is great, not so much GGJ, but ATM was really good. Definitely an improvement over Ladybird Girl, though not nearly as awesome as the Third Eye single or anything. I guess my only real disappointment with the single (since I already knew I disliked GGJ) was the lack of a real bassline in ATM. I love the song but I think better bass would give it a little more oomph. But I do realize that the single is mainly to show off the, well, single, not the b-sides, and the single does indeed kick ass.

The bass is buried, for sure, but what constitutes a "real bassline"? Yes, it's cool when you hear an interesting bassline that improves the song, but sometimes the bass needs to just care the beat and the roots. Each instrument has times when it should be in the forefront and times when it doesn't need to be there or is just playing a supporting role. Good musicians understand this, and I think the pillows demonstrated this with Across The Metropolis: they didn't have a complex bassline because it's not what's needed for the song.

I know it's not really the kind of song that needs a complex bassline, it would sound really out of place in such a slow, mellow song, but I wanted it to do at least a little bit more. There's a little kick at the end of the chorus which is nice, but I was hoping for (rather, my mind "expected" to hear) a little more variety during the verses. Not necessarily a complex thing but just a little variation on the up-down-up-down that runs through the song and never really changes.
I wish I had a more eloquent way to describe it but I don't know any music terms, I've never played anything, only listened a whole lot.
I think I just expect too much out of the bass in general. I was raised on rock from the 60s and 70s and for the most part the bass seemed to be have more thought put into it than in modern-era rock. I'm always pissed off at the lack of good bass in 90% of the American crap I hear every day, so when the bass in a song like this is a tad underwhelming I'm sort of pre-wired to be a bit irked. (I did find the bass in Wake Up x3 to be really good, though, especially when compared to the couple previous albums)
I do love the song. It perfectly fits my general mood as of late. The bass was just a minor non-issue
I can't wait to get the CD in the mail and listen with my better at-home headphones.
Why was Go! Go! Jupiter's solo so muted?
Still unanswered.
Also, did anyone find the "Toniiiight!" at the end of Across the Metropolis awkward/cute/EnglishForTheSakeOfEnglishButStillAwesome?

I started laughing at the "TONIIIGHT." I've yet to decide if that's good or bad.

I think he was probably just using a different tone that sounds more compressed.
Sorry to be the negative Nelly, but I think the title track is the only thing on this single worth listening to more than once. The good news is that the title track is quite good.

I dunno, I forsee Go! Go! Jupiter become quite the grower. But it's not that the solo is...muted, really, compressed, fine, but it's QUIET! The rhythm completely overpowers it. It seems like it's something that should have been fixed...
