would 2 or 3 hertz even be detectable by the human ear? -_-

The Pillows seem about a quarter step sharp. I don't think it's a Japanese thing either, because all of the other Japanese bands I can think of play at pitch. I think it's just something the Pillows do. There are American bands like the Unicorns (who are actually Canadian, but close enough) and Guided by Voices that tune a bit sharp as well.

EDIT: Removed very bad math.

Actually, my math is way off and 8 Hz is much less than I quarter step, and I believe it varies between notes. I'm not sure what I was thinking. Regardless of my befuggled math, they seem to be tuned about a quarter step up.

i know that it changes between notes, since an octave is cutting the frequency in half (440, 220, 880 are all A's)

yeah, i watched the video. he fingers and strums a F#m chord, but the major chord comes out of the speaker... WHAT THE HECK?!?!

Maybe he was playing a root 5 major, but muted the 6th string with his index finger, making it look like an F# minor.

Yeah, I usually do when I'm playing along with Pillows CDs. Seems to work out.
