Double post!
Just d/led it a bit ago off of Moletown.
Already know I love Ladybird girl, the song is just awesome. Gets better with listening. <3
And Hello! suprised me by having a VERY good vocal melody and a great feel, though the lead on the chorus still annoys me as unnecessary and lame. Despite that, the verses are great, though the bass is more boring than I was expecting during the verse (does pretty good during chorus though). The end of the chorus is awesome when he sings out "And Hello!" and it goes back to the really laid back sound with that awesome vocal line. The bridge is pretty nice, and the solo is fairly low and short, as has been standard lately, but it sounds really nice. Overall, I like it quite a bit. I just wish the freaking chorus had a better lead line.

their carrier has online tracking which is cool. hopefully it works even when the package gets stateside.
As does HMV. And yeah, it will work stateside too.
There aren't very many carriers to chose from and all of the carriers in the states have online tracking.
Anyways, HMV is ridiculous. I regret going through them again.
Cdjapan shipped on the 13th our time, so those who ordered from there should be getting your single by tomorrow if not today. Friday at the latest.

And Hello's verses are pretty nice, but the whole single sounds phoned-in to me. I can't imagine myself listening to this release much at all especially with Ai Don Wana Dai coming out soon. Thumbs down.

I really love this new song. The Pillows have kinda a new style with their recent work which I really like just more reasons to love them.
And the PV was really cool except that doll was ass ugly.

I liked the chorus of And Hello!. It had this really odd feel to it that made me love it, which is really hard to explain.

Thanks Kunde. And Hello! ain't too bad after listening to it a couple times. Like the little solo in there more than Ladybird Girl. Not much else to really say about it though except it was a decent song.

And Hello! is ok. Nothing really spectacular about it though. Meanwhile Ladybird Girl is winning the battle against Degeneration for my "Worst pillows Song Ever Recorded" award.

lmbo dis
But I still say that Gazelle City Atomic Bullshit or whatever is THE worst. To me Ladybird Girl is moderately offensive for its verses, whereas And Hello! is just an inferior version of what the pillows have already done. What does this song offer that Scent of Sweet doesn't have except 10X better?

Well, I'll say that Ladybird Girl as well as And Hello! are entertaining and energetic; however, they don't really stand out to me. As a matter of fact, if you play them back to back, they almost seem just like one long song. They really aren't bad songs, they're pretty catchy, but just because there's no Advice-level songs on the A-side, it really isn't the end of the world. The only thing that really bothers me is that the instruments almost seem... too clear.

Probably my biggest problem with recent pillows records is the production, so I'm feeling you here.

From reding the last few posts, it just seems a lot of people are underwhelmed by the pillows' recent work, and I am too. I mean, the only songs that have really WOWED me in the last three albums were The Third Eye and Gazelle City. Boat House as well, but on a lesser level. As you can probably ascertain, I think My Foot was much better than WUx3. Now I'm not saying that all their recent work sucks, but hardly anything seems to stand out anymore.

What will be interesting to see is if the pillows' current style undergoes a change in the next album (or the one after that). They haven't really stayed grounded in one certain sound for too long.
You can group their music like this:
<Pantomime, 90's My Life, Moon Gold, parts of White Incarnation>
<parts of White Incarnation, Kool Spice, Living Field>
<Please Mr Lostman, Little Busters>
<Runners High, Happy Bivouac>
<Smile, Thank You My Twilight>
<Penalty Life>
<Turn Back, Good Dreams>
<My Foot, Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up!>
Smile and TMYT could sort of blend either way (up or down), but that's what it seems like to me. Penalty Life sticks out for me as I can't really put my finger on what makes it different than the others -- maybe a slightly swingy-surfy-bluesy style in tracks like Super Trampoline School Kid, Dead Stock Paradise and I Know You, and Terminal Heaven's Rock.
So yeah. Judging just by Ladybird Girl, maybe the pillows will stick to music more like Wake Up...but I don't think a change is too far off...
