 Edward Scissorhands
One of the greatest movies ever made, in my honest opinion. It is definitely in my top ten. I've seen it countless times--I have it on DVD. I've watched it with Tim Burton's commentary, as well as with Danny Elfman's commentary. While it takes a stab at suburbia, it is really deep and can easily stike a chord in most peoples' souls.
Edward is the most emotional character in the movie, and ironically, since he has scissors for hands, he cannot touch or feel things because he could destroy them. The movie is especially moving because everyone experiences a phase of being stuck in an environment they have no control over, with people quick to judge, and slow to forgive.
There's something especially striking to me about this movie and it's hard to explain, and you wouldn't understand it with just a casual watch of the movie. Edward's initial reactions to when he first sees Kim's photo, to freaking the hell out of her, to seeing her with Jim, to looking out for the two while they have sex, to breaking into Jim's house all because Kim "asked him to;" these are points in the movie that are especially moving. Because Edward loves Kim, he'd do whatever she'd ask of him, no matter the consequences, and when she realizes what an awesome guy he is, it's too late. Society is happy to label and judge prematurely just because someone is different.
It's all really striking, and the way the film is directed to be an almost pseudo-satire of suburbia, while remaining a fairytale is just brilliant, and it is, by far, my favorite work by Tim Burton, and the score by Danny Elfman is plain awesome.

Actually, i'll have to agree wth you there. Most people who I've asked aboutr the movie sai dthey liked it because of Johnny and that it was sad. But the film goes much deeper into it that no one seems to get.
but its been a LONG while since I've seen it myself, so I'm gonna get another look at it and come back to this topic.

Man, Edward Scissorhands was awesome, but I haven't seen it in eons. Was this the movie where Winona Ryder played the goth chick?

Lmao, no. You're thinking of Beetlejuice. In Edward Scissorhands, Winona has on a strawberry blonde wig. I think it suits her very well, actually.

Meh. It was pretty good, but it is Tim Burton's work, so it was pretty awesome. Just a little awkward at some points.
I don't know why girls obsess over Johhny Depp tho...

Johnny Depp was relatively unknown then (Who remembers him in Nightmare on Elm Street? Anyone? Anyone?) and if you actually looked at the physical acting had to do with his eyes and face alone in the movie and actually paid attention to it, you'd probably be pretty impressed.
Throughout the entire movie, he says only something like 176 words, and considering he's the lead... he had to be doing SOMETHING with all of that camera time, and it wasn't speaking.

There's no doubt that he is actually a good actor, but all the credit seems to go to those on screen, rather than everyone else behind it. Making a film is a team effort; your sound doesn't sound good if your boom mic guy is lazy or if the mixers don't feel like doing a good job, the director makes the visuals look good, the lighting is always important, producers make sure that you know about this movie and even the small parts like the interns who go get coffee or the receptionists and such all make a difference. All in all, who really cares who is on camera?...

I most definitely do. Half of the time, I'll turn around in the computer chair, look at the T.V. (because my mom would be watching something like Lifetime -_-; ) and declare s/he is a terrible actor.
When it comes to big name actors, I could care less who is on screen, so long as they're good at what they do. I also would not be upset if Lindsay Lohan/Paris Hilton/Britney Spears fell off of the face of the Earth. It's all the rage! Anna Nicole Smith did it, they can too.
