The Sonics really should be there. They are (as far as I know) the only white rock band to ever sucessfully cover a Little Richard song. I also think they are far more influential than people give them credit for.

That's what I meant by original. But, no one should ever use the word original when really, every single last "rock 'n' roll" band out there either rips off some other band or compiles different rip offs. You can't be original, but like the pillows, you can be different. People are too afraid of being different. That's why bands like U2 get into the hall. Yeah, they have thier own sound... sort of...kind of, but they also sound like eveyr other band that was/is on the charts.

So... yeah. Eveyrthing sounds like something. You just have to find something that sounds like you could like it.

The whole thing that's good about the pillows is that they don't sound like anybody else. Oh my god I thought/hoped you were dead. Listen you are an idiot. No one is insulting the pillows. We were just talking about music you don?t listen to, so fuck off. Well, you just said it yourself. You ONLY listen to The Pillows, which is probably why you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about in a thread that is primarily about music history. There is not a single band that started out in the last 15 or so years that belongs in the hall of fame, plain and simple.

Did you even read what TuffGhost, Happi, and I were talking about? You have to be ignorant as hell to think that people like bo diddley and Magic Sam are ripping people off. Your precious Beatles are the ones who built a career by copying American black folk music. Bo diddley was the original rock and roller.

The reason I can appreciate the pillows more than you is not because I listen to them constantly, but because I don't. The fact that I listen to a variety of styles and artists makes me more able to understand how the pillows are better or how they?re different. You don't eat steak every day, and nothing else, and then say "steak is hands-down the best".

actually, you just proved yourself a fool. i have listened to so many different types of music, going from artist to artist, and i could never find one that was truly PERFECT for me. and then i heard the pillows. i listen to them so much because i appreciate them more than any band. i can listen through all my songs without wanting to skip one. and i appreciate them BECAUSE they're so much better than all the other crap i've heard. just because you listen to a lot of others and still like the pillows doesn't mean you appreciate them more. it probably means they're on a list of favorites. for me, they're the best. i like a few other groups still, but none near as much as the pillows.

Ok, this is a really dumb argument and this thread is getting seriously derailed. The bottom line is that the Pillows don't belong in this topic. They are not influential at all, or even that well known. Maybe a few of their influences (namely the Pixies) will some day be right for the hall of fame though...

You know, I'm starting to think you are illiterate. Most of the artists I talk about are either post-war blues artists, or credible/talented acts. I like Galaxie 500, The Microphones, Grandaddy, The New York Dolls, Steppenwolf, TMGE, The Pixies, JAMC, and the Kills. What do you like?
