So what if it's not the Killing Field?
Did you ever try calling it Japanese Rock, or Rock from Japan?

It would be a shame for us to break up over two of the most overrated and staggeringly generic bands ever.
Asobi Seksu if you're into shoegaze.

I can see that for Number Girl sometimes. Zazen Boys has really good stuff. Besides, Asobi Seksu is overrated. Listen to Luminous Orange.

The Stone Roses - Awesomness. Check their first album first.
The Smiths - If you like the pillows music, especially earlier stuff, then you will love this band.
The Beatles - this will never get old I think, there's something for everyone in their music

"Generic" huh, disco? I challenge you to find an American or European equivalent of Zazen Boys. Anything even slightly similar.
And Utsuseru. Yeah, man..."Japanese rock". Rock music done by Japanese people. Japanese rock. Remember it.
The lame-ass buzzword "J-Rock" cheapens the music and really makes it seem less legitimate than other "regular" rock from American or the UK. Or..Germany, Sweden, wherever else.

yup, i say j-rock cause it's easier. the name/label of the music i listen to doesn't make the actual music any worse, unless you equate "jrock" with "visual kei." but first of all, anyone who knows anything about "japanese rock" shouldn't be doing that, because that j in jrock stands for japanese, and everyone i know, wheteher they know any jrock or not, makes that connection.
unless, of course, you legitimately have a problem with calling a Tyrannosaurus Rex a T-Rex, because that T doesn't quite make it a real dinosaur.
sorry, don't mean to offend here, just seeing that bugged me cause i'm bored at home today.

Maybe I'm hating on Zazen Boys too readily, because I hadn't heard a lot of them and now what I'm hearing isn't that bad.
But the point still stands that Number Girl sounds like a band that thinks it knows what hardcore is but falls horribly, horribly short and ends up sounding like a hilariously pussified screamo band.
edit: And now I'm hating myself because the one Number Girl video I decided to youtube today was actually good.
Edit^2: The second one was fucking gay though.

Those who took my friendship comment seriously, are fools.
Calling it J-Rock is as if you're denoting Japanese Rock as a particular genre of music. You and everyone your friends might know that the "J" stands for Japanese, but that might be because your friends are probably weeaboo scum. For everyone else, what's not to say that they wouldn't think it means Jamaican?
Like Rhino pointed out, it would be stupid to call German rock, G-Rock or English rock as E-Rock. What if you did call English rock E-Rock? People would thing you listen to rock music with heavy use of synths and other electronically manipulated instruments. Or shit, even saying G-Rock might make someone thing you're talking about Gothic Rock

don't worry, i didn't take your comment seriously, i'm fairly well versed in hyperbole
but besides that, no, fairly certain i'm not "weeaboo scum," and my friends definitely aren't, and the point is many people are already calling japanese rock jrock. Yeah, i agree it'd be stupid to call german rock G-rock, etc., but that's because that's not in popular/widespread use.
as for the genre comment, it does sound in a way like it may sometimes be used to describe a genre, i guess that's up to personal opinion, but i see it as a classification

Alright, J-rock is a widespread term. It doesn't take a weeaboo to realize that J means Japanese. If you think it means Jamaican, then you can go ahead and ask. I could care the fuck less if you call it J-rock, Japanese rock, or Moonspeak rock; honestly, who cares. This is a website DEDICATED to a JAPANESE ROCK band. I'm pretty sure most people here will realize what the term means. It's like you typing "I'm" instead of "I am". J fucking Christ (loool).
Alright, now I'll just go down my Windows Media Player list and list bands that are worthy of suggestions in alphabetical order. Here you go (I'll omit most metal. If you want metal, lemme know.):
Acceptance
Alice in Chains
All-Time Quarterback
Animal Collective
Ashley MacIsaac (or however it's spelled >_>; He's under unknown artists on my list)
At The Drive In
Bane (Really good punk hardcore)
Beck (not the anime band although the music from the show is pretty good for the most part)
Belle and Sebastian
Black Sabbath
Black Uhuru
Bob Dylan
Bob Marley and the Wailers
Burning Spear
The Chieftains
Chuck Berry
The Clash
Cream
Dead Kennedys
Death Cab for Cutie
