With the rockin' exception of They Might Be Giants' Apollo 18 - the first/only<?> album specifically made to be played on random. Oh those johns...

Mission of Burma's OnOffOn has a message on the back that recommends playing it on shuffle.

I guess I don't really appreciate music just because I put it on shuffle. :|

Shuffle is for people who appreciate all their music, rather than incoherently filling their iPods with useless shit they don't listen to.

My friends just download a bunch of crap they hear from tv or something, stuff it in their ipod and never listen to it again. Whenever they listen to their itunes they spend 70% of their time skipping to the next song which is really annoying. I have all my music well organized because musicians put their songs in such order for a reason, a good example would be Led Zeppelin who didn't even release singles because their albums were to be listened to not for just one song but as a whole unit.

Another thing I dislike are greatest hits albums. By only listening to a certain bands greatest, you can miss out on a lot of good stuff.

Having that been said... I'm glad that the pillows didn't follow suit of Led Zeppelin, because I mean AMAP is just as good as FotP, if not better because it has more songs.

So today, I had my Bloodthirsty Butchers playlist going on first, the song was on Hashiru, then I loaded a different, larger playlist of like 1,600 songs with them on it, I skip the random song that comes on next and it's Bloodthirsty Butchers - Hashiru again.

Eheh.

I never use shuffle because I find the best way to enjoy a band's music is to listen the way it was intended to - as a whole album, all the way through. It also makes you really think about the quality of an album as a whole, and not just an individual collection of songs.

I, for one, prefer individual collections of songs. I have yet to find a non-compilation album that I have liked every song. Only a few have come close, such as Hootie and the Blowfish's Cracked Rear View and Guns 'n' Roses's Appetite for Destruction, as well as a whole slew of Queen, pillows, and Zep albums.

I'm not sure there's any album for me that I like every song on.

Exception could be Living Field, but one or two of the songs don't always do it for me.
