Bump of Chicken has some great songs though, and the singer's voice is good.

they have one slightly unmediocre song, sailing day, and that's barely making it.

Sailing Day is more than "slightly unmediocre," it's a legitimately awesome song. Also, Only Lonely Glory, Sharin no uta, Guild, Planetarium, and namida no furusato are quite good. Ugh, I'm so off topic here. D:

I really don't think his singing sounds that much like Bump's singer, but even if it did, Bump's singer is quite good, so that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

no no...thats not what I meant. Speaking from, for example, a voice coach's point of view, Sawao's voice is getting much better. Bump of CHicken's singer is great as well, it's just it doesnt have the same feel.

I prefer the inconsistant warble.

I'm a bit of a vocal snob, having been in choir forever, and I think his voice is indeed improving a bit from the more recent stuff, but I really miss Living Field's vocal quality. The singing in Something Like a Romance is perfect in every way. His warbly stuff lately had at times gotten a bit too much so, especially live, but the vocals on the Hybrid Rainbow performance from the bonus DVD here were nothing short of amazing, so I'm sure it's not studio clean-up making the studio vocals good. :)

HMV denied my credit car twice for my Lostman Go to America DVD, so I cancelled the order and got Scarecrow nad LGTA on a different card...

but they were out of limited editions.

How I could kick myself...

All my friends from Japan are Bump of Chicken fans. I listened to "The Living Dead" and fell in love with them, too. Hopefully when I'm over in Japan in June they'll be doing a show.

Now back to the topic.

are you talking about the vocals for the live DVD performance being overdubbed or the single itself? the single tracks are overdubbed, meaning that there are more than one recording of sawao's voice, doing the harmonies. The DVD seems to be just better quality recording, and represents both the bad and good things about his voice at various points, but there doesn't seem to be any overdubbing there. :?

Finally getting around to buying Lostman go to America and Scarecrow. Any idea if it'd be worth it to get the normal single for the sticker thing, versus seeing if I can still get the limited edition one?

Well, the bonus DVD has the best performance of Hybrid Rainbow ever in widescreen and high quality, so I'd say try for limited.
