LISTEN TO THE BASS, HOLY SHIT, JUN'S KICKING ASS ON THIS ONE GUYS.
"Oh sweet, an arpeggio!"

i'm pretty disappointed... boys be locksmith is almost a ripoff of scarecrow... the song that's already a ripoff to begin with...
YES i'm listening to it again before posting, there's a part of the melody that is the exact same line as scarecrow. cock.
exactly which part? I don't feel like digging through to find this.
That shouldn't be too difficult considering you've listened to it 41 times in the last three hours.
sawao's singing has improved. that's all I have to say for now.
If by "improved" you mean "gotten shitty" then I agree completely

Seriously, ever since Culen tried the whole bullshit with Scarecrow = One Life, people have tried to find any similarities and call them ripoffs or some shit. GUESS WHAT, FUCKERS, YOU CAN'T RIP YOURSELF OFF, FOR ONE, AND FOR TWO, LEARN SOME GODDAMN MUSIC, GET YOUR EARS CHECKED, AND STOP POSTING STUPID THINGS.
[/rant]
I'm serious though. If you can't back it up, don't make the claim. There's a whole few similar notes in there. Wow.
Edit: Oh look, a Culen-wannabe.
Also, the reason I didn't feel like digging through to find it is because I knew it was going to be some tiny shit that I wouldn't have noticed because it's trivial.

Sheesh, chill out guys. It's just the internet. Cut out the whole "shut the fuck up" stuff.
Honestly, I can hear the whole Scarecrow = One Life thing going on, too.
After listening to the single a couple times, it pretty much falls into the same category for me as their offerings from the THR single onward have. Namely, I can listen to it and I think it's okay, but doesn't touch the PML - TYMT era.
The cover's kinda nice, though.

nickelback actually got sued for ripping themselves off(between switching record labels or something? i dunno).
also, i'd like to know where you got those notes from. also, if i listen to each song once and see a melody that is exactly the same (every fucking hank williams song ever, for example) it's going to piss me off.
this guy's argument on npr was okay... but yeah... sawao is giving us cookie-cuter music. my foot was a step in the wrong direction, but this is pretty ridiculous...

What do you mean, how did I get those notes? It should be easy for anybody with a good ear to figure out and transcribe music if you have the song, a piece of paper, and an instrument. I actualy used Finale Notepad to write it down because it can play it back for me and I'm lazy. But yeah, I just listened, wrote down the notes, checked that the pitches were correct. It's not difficult at all.
If you're listening to these songs and "hearing a melody that is the same" then you need to try paying more attention. If you can't even figure out how I listened to the music and figured out the notes, I don't think you know what you're talking about with the melodies being "the same."

Holy cow, maximum lulz.
I don't know about you guys, but Boys Be Locksmith has me dancing in my seat. Mission accomplished. No it's not going in my top twenty from them, but it's a really fun song, and I think it's being over critiqued right now. I mean, if this were Rookie Jet, would you guys be like, "hmm, I don't like the bridge here, it doesn't convey it's message the way it should." or, "Gah, the lead isn't prominent enough, it's not blowing me away." Guess what guys, Bix stole a Ferrari. That's the beginning and end of the discussion.

i'll be the first to say that i don't have a great ear, pitch wise. it's kind of a problem. but i just saw your formatting and was wondering if you had a program pull it out for you or something.
whatever, maybe this will be like my foot... i'll think the album sucked, see them live and suddenly like the album, then a few months later get over it again and only listen to older pillows...
even though i am a huge supporter of people writing music with few cheap tricks or bells and whistles (changing instrumentation and crap, for example) these songs are just too similar...

If by "just too similar" you mean they're in the same key, then wow, you fail at music. Should they make sure that they write every song on a single in a different key then? When you're in the key of A, it generally makes sense to start the verse or chorus with either A, the tonic, or E, the dominant. Therefore, of course the first notes of two songs of the choruses of two songs in the same key will generally be the same, but that's where the similarity ends.
The two songs are very different in the way of bass, guitar, both rhythm and lead (or lack thereof), tempo, tone, vocals, lyrics, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. If the small fact of being in the same key makes two songs "too similar" for you, I feel sorry for you, as there are only so many keys that you can really use, especially since you get limited by your vocal range as well as the ease of playing in those keys.
Edit: oh yeah, and I don't see where they used "cheap tricks" to make the two songs different...the songs are different in most ways.

Yes, Mare, we get it. Everybody fucking fails at music except you. You're so awesome, etc. etc. etc. Think of something new to say, already. Christ.

#1: don't spew music theory. i know it. two of my three favorite musicians: johnny cash (EVERYTHING IN G) and neil young (WROTE AN ENTIRE ALBUM (practically) THAT WENT I I V IV)
#2: my point about cheap tricks was that the pillows didn't use cheap tricks and these songs sound really boring to me. some artists can pull it off (gary numan using the same 32 beeps) and some can't.

Yeah, too bad Sick Vibration and Over Amp kicked everyone's ass from Seattle to China and all the way back again.

Man, Sick Vibration was love on a stick. Or some other analogy that expresses appreciation.
