The flow of the song is fun, but I do agree that the lack of any apparent lead is rather disappointing, but I'd say take another listen paying attention to the interactions between the bass, drums, and vocals.
Also, expanding on my comments about Tsuyogari: the vocals throughout the verses are great, I can't see how you could complain about them at all. The guitar is great, there's a quiet synth or some instrument in the background. There's no "screeching" going on, but THOSE ARE FUCKING HIGH NOTES, OKAY?
1) Yeah, I'll listen to it in some decent over-the-ear headphones when I get the chance. I didn't pay much attention to the bass-drums interplay, but yes, it's promising.
2) You misread me, I didn't say "screeching", I said "stretching". Straining, that is. Maybe I just have to listen to it more, but it generally makes me feel a little unconfortable with the song when you can almost feel that the singer is sorta stressed on the vocals. Sorta of like Brody Dalle's voice, from The Distillers. I seriously can't listen to that stuff, because I feel like I need to clear my throat. I'm also not saying that people shouldn't try to go for the high notes even though it might not be in the perfect range. There's just something about Sawao's vocal on this one that doesn't sit so well with me. Again, I blame the production. Love Sawao's voice, but I don't necessarily want to hear every single little nuance in it. And I do love Manabe's sound in Tsuyogari.
3) Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater. I just have to keep in mind they're b-sides, and yeah. I do like both tracks, really, I do. Just probably not to the extent of most on here.
In case people are interested, I uploaded the original tsuyogari. Mr. Children - つよがり http://www.sendspace.com/file/motj29
Am I the only one that thinks Mr. Children's version is better?
I mean, Sawao did a fantastic job, but I really like the original better.

Anyway, Tsuyogari is a really pretty song, even the Mr. Children one is good, but I prefer the guitars in za pirouzu' version over the piano in Mr. Children's version.

I just don't get you, is all. You tend to tack on observations that I don't agree with or jokes that just make me think . It feels like you're just trying too hard, always throwing in something at the end that typically isn't funny, making me think, "Why did he have to say that?". But that's just my opinion.
Not important though. [/discussion]

Shrug.
It's mostly my choice of diction and how I phrase sentences, I bet. And I don't include things to be ha-ha funny. They're just there to divert attention from the focus of my point(s). Because all along I've been laying down clues to the path to finding Carmen Sandiego. You have to look harder at the random, unfunny non-joke things.
I wonder if you can find it here.
EDIT: I cn'at tyep.

Oops.
But yeah, check out that on good headphones later, it's some nice stuff. Jun's doing better basswork on this single than pretty much anything he's done lately.

i'm pretty disappointed... boys be locksmith is almost a ripoff of scarecrow... the song that's already a ripoff to begin with...
YES i'm listening to it again before posting, there's a part of the melody that is the exact same line as scarecrow. cock.
it's pretty formulaic, guys... you like it better than scarecrow? cock
the cover... doesn't scratch mr children vocally... it's as though he picked all songs that were almost exactly like scarecrow to package together...
this kind of stuff is quickly turning me into one of those "living field and earlier" pillows snobs. gah.

I noticed that too, the snngs are very similiar.
What's Scarecrow a ripoff of?

I really don't care for that guy's voice in the original, especially at the end of the chorus when he goes for the mouse fart falsetto's.
...I'm not getting any Scarecrow out of BBL. Personally, I think it's super catchy. It doesn't need a solo, either, I like it as one solid flowing piece.
Also, I can't agree at all about the Scarecrow/One Life rip-off BS, I really love it, it feels very new to me. I think One Life gets too much praise, actually. It's a great song, but it's actually not among my favorites.

30 seconds into Boys be Locksmith
is the same tune as 1:05 into Scarecrow.
I'm not sure if this is exactly right, but the beginning of bothe chorus' sound familiar to each other.
It's basically for a second, but it's enough to notice that Boys be Locksmith seems like a Scarecrow-eske song that went another direction.

i'm not gonna check utsu's work, i'm just gonna applaud him for being so quick.
the pillows have moved into a different tone... different vocal and guitar tone... but they're using some lackluster songwriting in my opinion (and i don't like the vocal tone either, for that matter).

Eh, so the vocals swell for about two seconds. I don't think that's significant to make much of a connection between the two.
