I asked Sawao to come back and play that song in person after the Chicago show. This was right after we were discussing Spiky Brothers, so I'm pretty sure I had his attention.
If they have another tour in the US I'll try my best to go...after missing the first two it'll probably wont happen.
But..
I'll definitely show some support by yelling out old songs if I get the chance.

Which portion what?
Give me which video and at what time, and I'll try and see if I can pick anything up. I'm not that good at the language.

Just listen for when Sawao says "Kyu ju kyu PACENTO", meaning "99%", and then starts talking about FLCL too.
Yeah, Last Dinosaur's mention of "not caring to play in America again" for "otaku sweaties" was bullshit. He knows very little Japanese and just added that in to be mean.
Even still, it's something that I'd really like translated.
And I really DO feel like shit for having two FLCL-related items signed by the pillows. Oh fuck me. Dammit. Now I NEED to write a heartfelt letter in Japanese to the pillows HQ with a picture of myself, explaining the situation of a decent number of American fans (including myself) loving the entire (well, most) of the discography.
Hah. I'm such a loser. Caring about what Sawao and the gang think of me. Dammit. But shit, really. I've seen them at three shows, and if they think I'm just some rabid FLCL-whore, then that burns me up. I need to set things straight.
I'll link Mare right now, if he hasn't seen it already.

Yeah, I heard the 99% thing, too. I just want to know what else was said.

I would totally have seen the pillows in concert @ Chicago, but the first time, my sister had effing college graduation the VERY DAY of the show and the family stayed the night in central Indiana.
The second time 'round, I was a dumbass and didn't find out about the show except for like a week before. I was so pissed. I shoulda been lurking moar on these boards.

From Marekenshin:
JAPR88 (9:48:12 PM): a) sawao's cyclone has only 2 pickup settings: rear humbuckers and neck pickup JAPR88 (9:48:29 PM): b) he said "for some reason i really wanted a white guitar" JAPR88 (9:48:38 PM): c) he said telecasters aren't "rock and roll"
JAPR88: he said something about also releasing the cds in america though JAPR88: so i think that all he was really saying is that in america and mexico, 99% of the fans found out of them because of flcl JAPR88 (10:01:45 PM): whereas in japan they're not really associated with flcl.
JAPR88 (10:08:48 PM): maybe note that he said nothing about JAPR88 (10:08:56 PM): not liking the american or mexican fans JAPR88 (10:09:15 PM): just that they're sort of tied to flcl in the minds of most of their overseas fans.
I'll ask my dad to summarize the 3rd part, and I'll post it up by end of tomorrow unless he's too busy with work. Just saying this so people don't waste their time trying to piece words together with their limited knowledge, and you can be assured of the meaning.
P.S. the movie is missing something.

I haven't heard enough to judge, but what I have heard and the jumpsuits lead me to agree with Grey.

hmm, i think i wrote a letter something like that once (sans self-pic).
i'm pretty sure they have to know they've got fans who care about more than just FLCL (i recall plenty of people posting that they'd had PML or something old signed).
but, if/when they do another US tour, it's likely they will still play the FLCL stuff and the domestic release stuff- it's still a safe assumption that most non-japanese fans wouldn't have heard much else.

I am sure that if you sent one with a self-picture, it would have ensured another pillows tour of America.

Well at least we know he doesn't think 99% of fans are morons. It is ture that probably around 99% of fans got into them from FLCL, i know that's the case with me. I think they should start playing more of their other stuff instead of "playing it safe" with FLCL songs. If the FLCL fans like Funny Bunny and Runners High, why wouldn't they like something like Kim Deal, or Midnight Down, or Nowhere as well?
