Miles Prower.

I have fond memories of playing second player Tails in Sonic 2.

And Knuckles, yeah, Knuckles just ruled. Sonic & Knuckles was such a great game.

Sonic 2 was the one for me. I don't know how many times I've played that game just to see Sky Chase Zone.
i'm a super hardcore sonic fan too.

and i can tell you already, it fails miserably.

sonic died after SA2.
The new Sonic game is VERY hard at some parts, but it does not really "fail miserably" its a nice step up from the latest Sonic trash with the exception of Sonic Rush being a good game.

I played SATSR yesterday, it's going to take some getting use to. It's a different train of thought, not easy to immediately pick up and play. I found myself forgetting to stop before an obstacle (cactus) or enemy, and getting hurt a bunch before remembering to step back, then attack/jump over it. Some other things are going to take some getting use to, like hitting the 1 button to stop in midair and land on a small platform when jumping to it. I had trouble figuring out the catapult at first, too. Sonic doesn't get up to speed very quickly either, but I'm assuming that's just to start with and will improve through progression.

I do like the story so far and the voice for sonic isn't bad, though Shara can get on your nerves saying the same lines if you keep failing at the tutorial levels. There is some really cool stuff though, like the side stepping segments, chases, log riding, etc. There's definitely a learning curve here though, I found myself getting to spots where I know I have to jump and use the homing attack to springboard off of enemies, but I forget to hold the jump button down long enough before I get to the end of the ledge and I fall in the water. Thrusting with the remote for the homing attack is fun though, as it rumbles when you hit the enemy, that's pretty cool.

The multiplayer stuff is quite fun, the mode I tried was the treasure hunt mode. I felt it was better than the “simple diversion” line that the reviewers have given thus far, I’ll be happy to play it against my brother sometime soon. Some of the games will take some practice, though.

Overall, it was a bit rough to get started. I suggest a 7-day rental, and play the crap out of it. I feel it deserves the chance for the player to learn it better over time, as some basic stuff felt awkward to execute at first, which can be somewhat discouraging and take the fun out. If you play it a lot and get the hang of it, then certainly you should buy it, but if it never goes anywhere for you during your rental period, then unfortunately I’d say no. The 6.9 – 7.6 range of scores between IGN and GAMESPOT is pretty fair from my estimation thus far. Of course, it’s only one day in for me, so it’s a first impression, but it is a mixed impression regardless.

Also, yes, component cables are definitely worth it. We got the Nintendo brand cables. They make the colors pop considerably, and the picture is much cleaner. Sonic and Excite Truck look great, I haven’t gotten around to Zelda yet, but I’m sure I’ll see a difference. Gamecube games looked exceptional as well. The environments in Metroid Prime were enhanced and richly colored, and RE4 looked fantastic as well. It is an immediately noticeable enhancement, I strongly recommend getting Component cables. You will have to ask an expert to find out if the cheaper brands are of a diminished quality or not, but I know that the Nintendo brand ones are a great improvement.

Thanks for the review. Even if the single player lacks a little, there's always multiplayer. And is Shana kind of like Omochao from SA2? Anyways you have convinced me to buy it with the money I have left.

And I'll get the component cables too.

She just sounds phony, i.e. overacting. Omochao guides you in the multiplayer menus. <3 I don't have a beef with the current sonic characters VA's, they do fine for me.

On a related note, I just got super mario world and starfox 64 on my wii.

Indeed. Hopefully, around 12:30 PM Eastern Time. I'm looking forward to some news, maybe on online play or at least Sonic.

Nothing like a countdown which ends, and yet starts another countdown. The suspense is killing me.
