Considering that everyone else saw Walkin' what, nearly two years ago, shouldn't somebody else have remembered all of this?
It's interesting that nobody noticed the live clip of Ano hi... and never asked, "Hey, we've never heard this song... maybe it's from the Special CD?" Pee's also seen with his ESP Les Paul in that vid.
Who is that white guy on the Tiny Boat single? Who's the babe that shows up several times? Who's that old guy who looks like some sort of Japanese pirate?
I'm not sure if anybody noticed this before, but the stuff with Yoshiaki and Shin running around in London is also apparently part of the Kanojo wa Shisuta PV. I've also going to assume, based on the old footage in the DVD, that they recorded all or most of White Incarnation in London.

the pictures from the white incarnation booklet seem to hint towards that idea, as does the following information (from the booklet):
recorded and mixed by JON JACOBS
assistant engineer DAVID BROWNE (BRITANNIA ROW St.)
recorded and mixed at BRITANNIA ROW St.
and the special thanks for that album lists to people from FCI London. so...

Yeah, I came to that conclusion when I saw Walkin' months ago. I mean, they show Sawao singing/recording (horribly I might add. Thank God for NASA!) in a London studio. And like Mare pointed out, it is in the booklet.
I'm interested in finding out if Hybrid Rainbow and Little Busters were recorded in London as well.

That is correct! I noticed that in the booklet. There's a few other songs with random bass players / other instruments as well.

Just to clarify: Zin Yoshida plays bass on the song HWTBTHZ. Not HWTBTHZ:IS.

Okay, does anybody own Dead Stock Paradise the DVD around here? I just recently got it, and in between Kono yono hate made and white summer, theirs a clip in which Jun is playing the piano, and Sawao's playing this weird ass instrument were he puts his hands above, not touching it at all, and it sounds kind of like a voice. The song's Black Sheep if that helps.

Sawao was just using a tweed Bassman reissue in the Swanky Street video, if I recall. They were sponsored by ESP and Peavey in those days, but it's more likely that (given Sawao's track record) it was a real Fender. Keep in mind I don't care enough to actually watch the video. It should be fairly easy to find out though since the Peavey Classic line have logos right in the middle of the grill.

This topic really needs to be updated-again. For now, Manabe: The complete guitar and amp history!
In the early days Manabe played an ESP Thinline Telecaster; at some point, he replaced the stock neck pickup with a Strat one. During this time he also used a blackguard Telecaster (as seen in the Ame ni Utaeba PV), and probably/possibly some other ones as well. He played a white Telecaster that looked similar to the thinline with Persia, which he probably also played with the pillows, and a red Telecaster is visible in the 90's My Life Returns booklet. I remember seeing a Sunn amp in a liner note photo from one of the early albums, so this was probably his main amp at the time. Manabe can be seen playing this amp on the Walkin' DVD, on the Pari no Josei Marie live performance.
Between 1994 and 1996 the early sixties style ES-335 was Manabe's main guitar. I believe this is an ESP and not a Gibson; some ESP guitars have a logo for the series they belong to, and not the brand. For example, the Navigator and Edwards series guitars have a more script style logo, and I'd guess Manabe was playing one of these. During this time he also played an ESP Les Paul Custom, probably a Navigator or Edwards; it's a bit tougher to classify this guitar because the top is actually a translucent dark red color, as you can see in some parts of the Tiny Boat PV. The guitar can be seen in the Ano Hi to Onaji Sora no Shita de live clip on Walkin' on the Spiral (somewhere between 35 and 40 minutes?), as well as in the Tiny Boat video. I'm not sure if he actually recorded either of those songs on that guitar, since both sound much more like an ES-335 to me. During this time he was using the two Peavey cabinets, but I don't know what amp he was using. I suspect that it was a Marshall of some sort; he may have had his JCM900 as far back as 1993/1994. In the Walkin' DVD, he can be seen playing a goldtop Les Paul Deluxe of unknown make on the live of Naked Shuffle. He probably played this guitar between 1994 and 1995.
Around 1995 or 1996 he began playing Strats; he uses a blonde ESP Seymour Duncan Strat for overdubbing some parts of Tiny Boat, such as right before the chorus, as seen on the Walkin' DVD. This guitar can also be seen in the outdoor part of the Swanky Street PV. He used various other Strats for several years as well - a Sherwood Green ESP Seymour Duncan Strat can be seen in the Swanky Street PV and the ROSS PV. This guitar is not a Fender as previously speculated, but rather a member of the Seymour Duncan line produced by ESP. I can't find more info on these guitars, but I doubt they're much different from the ESP-labeled ones, other than the pickups.
Manabe played a lot of Strats. He uses a sunburst Strat in the Strange Chameleon, One Life, and Another Morning PVs. In the Trip Dancer PV, he used a black ESP Strat with a rosewood fretboard. By far his most commonly used guitar for years was a Lake Placid Blue ESP Strat, seen in the PVs for Hybrid Rainbow, Rush, Kanojo wa Kyou, and the December 1997 Liquid Room live performance. He also played an ESP XJ-something on the No Self Control PV and the Wonderful Sight live performance.
Between 1996 and 2000 he mostly used various ESP Stratocasters. His main axe was the Lake Placid Blue Strat, but he also used, mostly in PVs, a blonde/maple strat (Swanky Street), a sunburst strat (One Life), and one or two others I may be forgetting. The Lake Placid Blue Strat shows up in Rush and most live performances from this period. Around this time, Manabe bought his Orange Overdrive amp and 4x12 cabinet while in London, which he used in addition to the Marshall JCM900. By 1998 he was playing the Marshall with a matching 4x12 cabinet. It's not uncommon to see the Orange head with the Marshall cabinet. I believe that Please Mr. Lostman was recorded entirely on the Marshall, and Little Busters split roughly half and half between the two amps. Much of Manabe's distorted tone comes from his pedals, so the amps don't make a huge difference. I prefer the Orange's clean sound, however.
Starting with Happy Bivouac, Manabe began using a Fender Japan Mustang, which appears in the PVs for I Think I Can, Kono Yono Hate Made, Babylon Tenshi no Uta, Shiroi Natsu, Sono Mirai wa Ima, the 916 DVD, and all live performances through this era. It's probably Manabe's most used guitar. This guitar is presumed irreparably damaged from poor handling during the first US tour.
Around 2005 or 2006 he presumably bought another one, and also began using a second Mustang with a Seymour Duncan rail humbucker in the bridge for meatier tones. Manabe seemed discontent with the Mustang's thin tones at this point, as his future guitar selections would suggest.
The Mustang wasn't the only guitar he played from 2000-2005, though; he also played Bob, a custom-built Les Paul Special, on Terminal Heaven's Rock. This guitar, named after Bob Marley, can be seen in the Walkin' DVD around 1994-1995, so Manabe has obviously had it quite a while. I suspect it's too valuable to him to be played in lives and PVs very often. During the recording of Penalty Life he apparently used a black, rosewood fretboard Telecaster, but probably not the same guitar Sawao was playing in the Trip Dancer PV since this one doesn't have the block ESP logo.
In 2005, he used an Epiphone Explorer for the recording of Nonficion and The Third Eye, and perhaps more of My Foot as well. He played a Squier Jagmaster for the second US tour and possibly on My Foot, and as of late 2006/early 2007, he's been playing a white Gibson Les Paul Special Doublecut.
