someone who says "Oh yeah, I love everything the pillows have done, they don't have one mediocre song"
in my opinion, they haven't done one BAD song. They've made plenty of mediocre ones, but nothing that's truly horrible to me.
Yeah, this thread is horrible. I hate us all now. D:
I guess it's just kind of hard to see even the best of their new stuff as very good because of the fact that we're constantly comparing it in our own minds to the other things they've done. And it's damn hard to write better music than what they already have. I really don't expect them to ever make an album of the same caliber as the '97/98 stuff.

1. 99% of IM agrees One Life is a great song 2. According to many members, Scarecrow is a "carbon copy" of One Life Conclusion: Many members of IM should agree that Scarecrow is a great song.
Okay, no one has, so I'm gonna call bullshit on this statement.
Had "Scarecrow" been there instead of "One Life" back in the day, sure, this works, but as it stands "Scarecrow" sounds like a hapless retread born from a lack of ideas. "Carbon-copy" may be a liberal exaggeration, but it gets the point across - there's been no real sense of progression since Good Dreams, and that's a bit disconcerting for a band that has changed so much throughout the years. We expect better than recycling.
You're proving my point. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. If the song IS like One Life, then it is probably pretty good. If you think the song is more like the mediocre recent stuff (as you have stated here), then it is not like One Life. It's fucking logic, mang.
1. If Scarecrow, then One Life
2. If One Life, then awesome
so, if Scarecrow, then awesome
Since One Life is undeniably awesome, the problem lies in the first premise. Therefore, Scarecrow is not that much like One Life. GOOD DREAMS is NOT One Life. Maybe there's been nothing original since GOOD DREAMS, but that says nothing about the One Life comparison. The songs are somewhat alike. Scarecrow is SOMEWHAT reminiscent of One Life.

Exactly. This discussion is pretty much over. But we'll give it another week or so for all of us to keep reiterating what's been said the past few pages. It's only customary.

A minute and thirty second segment of the new pillows song Scarecrow surfaced, Culen noticed a similarity to One Life and intentionally blew it out of proportion to create a bandwagon effect among the Little Bastards, and some people bought into it here resulting in heated debate.
So basically ignore everything said here and form an opinion of the clip for yourself. Or, better yet, wait until the PV comes out to decide.

I think if you just listen to it more, you'll like it more. For me, that's the way it is for every song I listen to. I didn't like Scarecrow at all the first time I heard it, but I knew that's normal.
The chord progression in the verses is (correct me if I'm wrong), basically, the same as ONE LIFE, and the last few notes of the first verse sound like ONE LIFE, too. That doesn't mean shit to me. I like it.

I liked it. Sounded nothing like One Life to me; it's in a different key anyways.
