I've seen NG and ZB outside of the music forum PLENTY of times. Even breeching into the tabs section where peopel insist on NG tabs over pillows tabs.
I've given NG many chances. I'me listened to almost all the stuff I could find on youtube. I can in know way even fathom the possibility of that woman being better than Manabe. The whole band is mediocre at best.
But of course I guess they just INVENT their own notes since they are SO original.

I miss stuff like Kool Spice, Living Field, Thank you my Twilight, and Smile. They all were different and brought something new to the stuff the pillows did. After listening to Scarecrow more, It's really boring. It feels exactly like how its used, a forgetable anime ending theme. The exact opposite of Ride on Shooting Star

Uh...actually...listen to the ending solo of Tatoo Ari (from the album "Sappukei"). Tabuchi in fact bends up to H# (and there are some J minor chromatic scales in the background if you listen closely enough)
crap. sorry for Number Girl posting.

Grey's right about FAIR critique. I'm just stating that saying Scarecrow is a "carbon copy" of One Life is a baseless critique.
Think of it this way.
1. 99% of IM agrees One Life is a great song
2. According to many members, Scarecrow is a "carbon copy" of One Life
Conclusion: Many members of IM should agree that Scarecrow is a great song.
Or, to get more personal
1. Jedi loves One Life (I'm assuming, but correct me if I'm wrong)
2. Jedi says Scarecrow is the same as One Life
Therefore, Jedi loves Scarecrow.
It's a fucking contradiction if you make this critique and don't at least like the new song.

I wasn't trying to be funny, I was just asking what song you think the pillows will kind of redo next.

I think Rhino gave a really good analysis of Tabuchi and Manabe. I'd definitely take Manabe's guitar work first up to 1999 or so, but it's really tough to make a good technical comparison. Tabuchi is really restrained a lot of the time, and then goes crazy on songs like Tattoo Ari.
MyFoot, one reason why you might seen other band's tabs in the tabs section is because until Mare came up with Distortional Addict, there wasn't really any other place to put it. Not to mention, many pillows songs have been tabbed already.

Wow, this thread has degenerated. I'm not going to insult anybody's musical tastes or anything with this post (I'll try not to, anyway).
Jomei. <3 <3 <3 let's make babies, k?
On a more serious note though, that's my exact point. Like the song or hate the song, Scarecrow is nowhere near a One Life ripoff. I'm glad to see other people have noticed this and are speaking up against that rather ridiculous proposition.
Secondly, I strongly doubt anybody would love anything the pillows put out simply because it's the pillows. While this song is not as good as something like Swanky Street or Strange Chameleon, saying that it's "uninspired" is also a bit ridiculous. You may not like it very much, but I'm sure that whether Sawao put tons of work or not into this one, it's something he created with the other members of the pillows. I doubt Manabe crafted that lead line just to pass the time. This is serious work to them. So whether you like it or not, it's still something worth considering. Some of us had a hard time growing to like their older works, yet now consider them to be their best. So give this a chance, okay?
(as a totally unrelated sidenote, apologies for bringing up NG here, but I too feel that Manabe is a technically superior guitarist. Tabuchi is really fun to listen to and does some cool lines, but the pillows win over NG to me pretty much any day).

anytime jomei.
I'm glad to see some of us are actually looking forward to the single and not falling into the "let's bash the pillows" trap.

Yeah, I say meh. It kinda bores me from what I've heard, but I'm not going to dismiss it yet, and I'm still looking forward to the next album. It'll probably grow on me, and I don't think it sounds nearly similar enough to ONE LIFE to say that it's a ripoff. Oh, and
Maybe the two songs sound similar because, HOLY FUCK, it's the SAME BAND!
Pretty much. A lot of bands are really boring because all their songs sound the same, except for maybe one that's a hit. That's why I love the pillows so much, really. (I was so amazed by the pillows that I started to listen to music, literally. Thanks to the pillows I now listen to music almost whenever I can, and I've discovered many other great bands.) In general, each song is new and different, and each album has its own style. Of course, that has been less true with the past few albums, but they've still put out some wonderful stuff, especially in comparison to most other bands, if not in comparison to their own past songs, at least in my opinion. If they sound similar, so what? Like has already been stated, LAST DINOSAUR and Sono mirai wa ima are similar in some ways, but they're still unique, not at all equal, and I love them each separately. Now, if they had made a whole album of LAST DINOSAURs, I would complain.
SCARECROW doesn't excite me like ONE LIFE did when I first discovered it and how great it was (which I distinctly remember), because it's just more plain. It simply doesn't give me the same feeling as ONE LIFE, so I don't care if some parts are reminiscent. (I doubt if I would have made the connection on my own, at least for a while.) But I could hear some good emotion in the live, at least, and I look forward to hearing the full studio recording.
Whatever. I know I didn't really say any new stuff, and I'm just adding to the dumbness that has become this thread, but that's pretty much what I think.
EDIT: GAWD I'M SLOW. So many posts while I work.
