thats cuz america and mexico can suck it.
the reason i had said that i didn't want dings on it is because i want to be the one makes the dings. i fully understood what you wrote, kelp. but like i said, if funds don't allow me to get one off of ebay, even if its brand new, i will have no choice. cuz you never know who will come in and bid for the thing and end up offering it for more. i do, from time to time, check to see if there are rickenbacker 4001's and mustangs on ebay. and it is true that i could borrow my parents card, but i don't know if they will like the idea of me using the thing on ebay. with all this credit fraud bullshit, you never know what could happen. i'll try to see if i can order it straight from japan also. but i highly doubt any of the retailers over there will ship to the US. i'll even pay $1000 if i have to.

.....ANYWAY, My local guitar store has a Fender Mustang Bass from the 60's. It's $600 though, and it's really beat up. It'll need a new paint job, and some new strings as well if someone ends up getting it.

Steven, Made in Japan Fender guitars and basses are superior to their Made in Mexico, Made in Korea, Made in Idonesia, and Made in Indo-China counterparts. Trust me. Squier guitars from the 80's are sought after because back then assembly lines in Mexico were top-notch and they used the highest quality parts in the given price range. Same goes for Japan and America. Not to imply those two are suffering from the same problem Mexican Squiers are suffering from these days. These problems range from cheap parts (tuners and the bridge's saddles in specific), poor wiring, and unsightly blemishes in the finishes. Fender guitars from any year made/crafted in Japan or America on the otherhand, are the best hands down and anything else, especially ones made in asian countries other than Japan are highly likely to fall apart on you within months.
Spend the time looking on eBay and forego instant gratification.

furthermore, japan knows what the fuck they are doing when it comes to electronics.
i had read a brief history of fender japan. they started off make down-to-the-smallest detail copies of old fenders from the 50's and 60's. this was during the height of the lawsuits brought onto ibanez when they started to make complete knock-offs of gibsons and fenders, at least i think it was the case with fender. when fender found out that japan was making these copies, they went to invesitgate the matter and bring them a lawsuit, but what happened was that when they inspected the guitars, they found that they were so incredibly true to the originals, they were incredibly impressed that they didn't bring the lawsuit and thus fender japan was born.
