I love 12 string basses now... they sound really unique. They are not like the pictures posted already, but more like the 12 string guitar.
Why anyone would want a 6 string bass is beyond me. Most bass players I know want to take a wire cutter too the damn things.
I personally feel like using anything other than a 6-string guitar and 4-string bass is cheating. I also dislike super-low tunings, but this is just my own little philosophy.

Call me hypocryte (did I spell that right? Probably not) but I really like the way a 12 string acoustic sounds on some songs and I think they're fun play but that't just me.
Back on topic, I wonder what Jun thinks of America so far. I bet there are a lot of crazies tromping around Austin right now. PARTY!

I don't see why you would need anything more than 4 strings. People just buy the big ones to show off or something or be different. I mean a twelve string bass? Come on. The neck is like a foot wide where it connects to the body.
Ridiculous.

Holy shit that song sucks so much fucking balls. I learned to play the damn thing after only 2 months of fucking around with the bass guitar.

Ridiculous.
Ever listened to any of Claypool's stuff? Thats enough reason to love a 6 string right there.

This post alone made me register. The stupidity is almost unfathomable, but then again I go to high school.
Holy shit. Cage "sucks so much fucking balls" because Culen figured out how to play it after "fucking around with a bass guitar for 2 months." Let's all bow down to his awesome power. I'm still trying to figure out if this is blatant sarcasm, but with your general dick-like attitude, I'm assuming it's not. Look, I don't even know the song you're talking about, but if it "sucks so much fucking balls" as you eloquently put it, I'd think it would take you less than 2 months to figure it out. That whole statement is a paradox that I just can't figure out. The song sucks, but it took you 2 months to figure it out. I don't think it's taken me a week to tab a given song (let alone two months), especially one that "sucks balls."
Secondly, Jun hardly sucks. "LOL ROFL IM GONNA GO SHIT MYSELF BECAUSE HE CAN'T PLAY LIKE JACO OR WOOTEN LMFAO BBQ!!!1" Who cares? Wow, he can't solo like a madman for 20 minutes straight, I guess that means he sucks. The fact of the matter is he's a solid bassist, and out of the 3 Pillows CD's I have with him on it, I haven't heard him go offbeat or totally butcher a song yet. Who really cares if he doesn't solo like Flea or whoever, he gets the damn job done.
And 4 string basses kick every other kind's ass. No, you're not crazy or whatever for using them, but come on, does your music magically start to kick ass when you pick up a 5, 6, or 20 string or whatever the hell bass? At some point it would probably be easier to use a damn octave pedal. Every extra string you add is like 5 notes extra to your repotoire (5th fret is open for the next higher string), does it really add that much? I just don't see it.
