It's not uncommon for the vocalist/singer to be considered the band leader..

I like Sawao the best anyways.

sawao was pissed off since manabe kept making those reggae songs, so he forced manabe to make a side project.

But on topic, it's always been completely obvious to me that Sawao was always the be all and end all when it came to the pillows.

Rika, it's not uncommon for any member of the band to be considered the band leader, or for there to be multiple band leaders, or none at all. But for one person to have a complete monopoly over a band whose members are equally talented and well-known - that is very unusual. I mean, to have a complete monopoly is even unusual, unless the band is named "Someone" and the "Somethings," or the "Someone" band. Or "Boston."

I had always been under the impression that Sawao was responsible for composing the majority of the songs, if not the bass lines at least. While this impression is not the result of any factual data, it is an impression none the less, and should be respected thusly.
