Guitar- Lessons/Questions
This is how I play A minor Pentatonic.
e|--------------------------5-8-5----------------------------|
B|----------------------5-8-------8-5------------------------|
G|----------------5-7-8---------------8-7-5------------------|
D|------------5-7---------------------------7-5--------------|
A|------5-6-7-----------------------------------7-6-5--------|
E|--5-8-----------------------------------------------8-5----|
START SLOW!
So, after playing that back and forth for awhile, try adding some vibrato
to the 7'th fret (A) on the D string, the first octave, easy enough.
Just get this scale into your inner self. So much is based off this scale,
that you really need to have it ingrained into your head.
More to come...
EDIT: eh..The tab looks horrible, but hopefully you get the idea.
I'll post a video with some in depth views later on tonight.

That's an A minor blues scale. A pentatonic scale doesn't have flatted fifths.

Take out the sixth fret on the A string and the 8 on the G and you have a by-the-book A pentatonic minor scale.
edit: and yeah, it appears that it's a blues scale. the two are practically the same though lol.

Pentatonic scales shouldn't have blue notes as they are derived from eastern chinese music and stuff.

That scale was posted as how I play the pentatonic.
Of course there are added notes, but the scale is presented that
way for playability and I'm keeping this as simple as possible
so anyone can get something out of it. I'm not here to discuss theory
or attempt to teach it. I will be the first person to say that my overall knowledge of music theory is severly lacking, probably worse than most
of you here, since all anyone could seem to do is correct the scale that I posted, but I digress. This is for people that just want to learn to solo and use those solos in songs, specifically Zenkalia and Mare since they asked for some help.
So if you guys want to start a thread about theory, go right ahead, but this thread is simply for immediate guitar playing.
So yeah, all I can read is tab, so what?
You guys really want to match music knowledge, get your guitar
and let me hear it. I'm more than willing to bet people aren't so brave
without a search engine to back them up.
Now, who actually wants to learn some licks?
Oh yeah, and the video is..well, I'll get on that now.

yeah, sorry to knit pick on this but i dont think pentatonic or blues scales are too similar, mare
this pattern is in reference to a major scale
penatonic: I, II, III, V, VI, VIII notes of a major scale
and blues: I IIIb, IV, IV#, V, VIIb, VIII
well, they aren't too similar to me.

dude. read my above post again. take out two notes and you ahve the a pentatonic minor scale.
ON TOPIC.
I agree with sclone, and yes, I don't so much give a damn specific names for things as learning things that are useful and will improve my skills as a guitarist. Ready for them licks whenever.
Also, what scales are the best to learn?
major, minor, and pentatonic?

Yes, major and minor scales are important, as well as major and minor
pentatonic. I hope to cover and show examples of anything you guys want
to know about.

e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| G|--X--------------------------------------------------5--7--5--^7-^^7p5-----------5~-------| D|--X----------------------5--7--5-7~------------7-------------------------7--5--7--------------| A|--X-----------5----7----------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---/5--5--8-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
This is a fairly straight forward blues lick. Not that impressive, but it contains some key elements that any lead player should be able to play.
1. Slide- practice sliding up to that note. Make sure it's a clean slide,
ensure that you don't overshoot and miss. Just start with a down stroke on the G, and slide it up to A. After that feels fairly natural, try a down stroke, and rake across a few dead notes before you get to the G.
2.Vibrato- I hate to have to say it, but Vibrato is very much a feel thing.
To get it started, slowly pull your finger down toward the floor and then slowly back up again. You can also start by pushing the string up and
then letting it slowly go back down, but the latter is usually easier. You get the same sound either way.
3. Bend - a note bend can make or break a solo. Bends are very expressive, and one of the trademark sounds of blues and or rock guitar.
We'll start with half and whole note bends, which are pretty self explanatory. Again, very much feel oriented, you will have to play with
these examples for awhile to ensure the bends are in tune. If you are going to bend G string 7'th fret( D), start by first playing the G String 8'th fret (D sharp) and then bend the D up to that pitch. Practice these bends
often.
And finally, the end of that lick will lead us into what I call the B box
position of the blues scale, which looks like this:
e|-----------------8--10---------------------------------------------------------| B|---------8--10-----------------------------------------------------------------| G|-----/9----------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
| / slide up
| \ slide down
| h hammer-on
| p pull-off
| ~ vibrato
| + harmonic
| x Mute note

^7 is only bending up half way, where as ^^7 is the full bend.
I'll record the video now so you have something to go by.
