Tatsu-Kun is to Zazen Boys as Culen is to the pillows. Though I would tend to agree that losing Inazawa was a big detriment to the band.
I haven't heard all of III yet (only the Okinawa live and the Friday Night PV), but I really don't see what everyone is complaining about. I think the chaotic-ness is pretty cool and works well within the band's style.
I don't know what everyone else here would catergorize Zazen Boys as, but I strongly consider them within the progressive/experimental rock genre... I wouldn't be suprised if Mukai had been listening to a lot of Captain Beefheart over the past few years. Zazen Boys has a very, very unique sound, and that's one of their biggest strengths.

Oh no! Friday Night has a consistent beat to it? Blasphemy!!
Sure, Inazawa's a great drummer. I don't know nearly enough about Japanese drummers to make the (commonly seen) statement that "Inazawa is one of Japan's best". However, I'll say that he's being fellated a bit too much. And that Atsushita is being disregarded far too much.
Look at the performances for Friday Night and Cold Beat. Solid as hell.
If you really want more chaotic and frenzied drumming so much, maybe you should be complaining about the composition of the songs on Zazen Boys III, not the "skill" of Atsushita.
I think Zazen Boys III has a few really good tracks: Friday Night, This is NORANEKO, Don't Beat, and to some extent, Water Front and RIFF MAN.
But don't blame the failings of that album on the new member. Can he necessarily match Inazawa's skill and intensity? I'm not sure. Hell, I haven't yet been completely sold on how "awesome" he is and I have seen the live of Inazawa chainsaw. To be honest, drumming isn't something I really focus on when listening to a song. Sure, I recognize when good drumming makes a song better, but I'm usually more interested in...the guitar lines, the vocal melody, the bass...
Conclusion: We can see that Atsushita definitely has a good deal of skill. No matter how he compares to Inazawa, the "AtsuSHITa" comments aren't really deserved. Turn your flames to how Mukai composed the songs on ZBIII, please.

Atsushita is a servicable live drummer until Inazawa returns...
As Goldenrhino said, III lacked the originality and composure of I and II...
Atsushita is trying his best, but he will never fill the large shoes left behind by the original drummer, Inazawa...
Inazawa WILL be back.

Yeah, I did. Would you like to elaborate on what made it "shitty"? I haven't seen it, so educate me. If you want.

I find III really interesting and really hard to listen to, and these comments concerning it lacking the "originality" of the first two albums just throw me, honestly. If anything, it's a hundred times more difficult than the first two.

Yeah, the more free-jazzish sections of III definitely recall Beefheart.

a change in drummers can be a detriment to any band, even if the drummer is better than the original. Inazawa is more technical than Matsushita, but Matsushita, being like 5 times bigger than inazawa, relies on power in his drumming. The band is great, with or without inazawa. Even though I prefer Inazawa, there's no denying the talent of the entire band.
You're fucking crazy and immature to criticize the band so openly because of a single performance. My favorite is the first album, but i enjoyed listening to them all. ZAZEN BOYS III is good. Writing it off because it's different from the other albums is pretty narrow minded of you.
That's right, I fucking said it.
DO SOMETHING.

OK, first of all, if you've ever listened to Number Girl or Zazen I-II, you should know that Inazawa is probably one of the best drummers out there. He doesn't always rely on speed, his tempos are varied, and he has a technique that is unique to him. You can really tell when it's Inazawa playing, but that doesn't mean he plays everything similarly. It's hard to explain. I personally think he is an amazing drummer. I, however, don't blame III's weakness of Inazawa's disappearance. It just seemed to me like III kind of changed style and was less of what I expected from them.

Right. III was a lot more unstructured and had much more aimless...instrumental noodling.
There was a lot of "Ok, Matsushita - lay down a beat. We're gonna do whatever the hell we want, and then call it a song."

a reasonable view. Inazawa is extremely talented, no denying that. Anyone who's listened to ZAZEN BOYS and Number Girl extensively would know that (Kaizen Zenya from the Zazen Boys self titled especially, something Mukai would never let Matsushita do). It's actually pretty cool that he pulled a "Dave Grohl" and fronted a band after becoming a renowned drummer. The ZAZEN BOYS are better knowing that Inazawa is on drums, especially for us Number Girl fans. But even without him, they're still pretty talented.
