Yeah. That's a good idea, so I guess I'll plan to get them checked before sending them off, once we get enough people. And the letters won't all say "play old stuff," they'll also list a few specific songs that the person wants to hear, and will tell the pillows that we love their music and want to hear more of it in concerts.

So with snail mail, we would just have people print off the letters, sign them, and then mail them to what address?

Let me see if I got everything so far:

1. We write the letters, then send them to you through e-mail.

2. You council with translation group, translate, send back to us a final version.

3. We sign, send to them through real mail at time TBD.

Questions:

1. Should we include our names to be translated? (ex. Sincerely, Joe Blow from Kokomo)

2. Will I need to download a Japanese language font for my computer to recognize and print out the letter properly?

3. Would it be okay to doodle a little on the letter? Send photographs?

i think that sending photographs and doodling on your letters and whatnot will only add to this. i mean, what the overall effect is going to be is a visible surge of support from american fans coupled with a desire to hear more of their songs played live.

Let's also let them know that we want them to come to some of the cities that they missed (Boston, Atlanta, Miami, D.C.).

Atlanta for sure. Let's try to keep it so that anyone in any region has a chance to make it to a show within reason. For instance, a Boston show would be awesome, but the drive to NY is just under for hours. Those of us that live in the south / southeast coast would have to make a plane flight :|
Wouldn't it be smart to get them to come to America a little more often than, say, ONCE A YEAR, before we start with this shit?
I get the feeling that coming to America at all is something of an undertaking for them, much less upping the frequency of their visits. They're recording albums, and touring in Japan. They're Japanese. They speak Japanese. They speak very poor English. For them, I'm sure Japan comes first.

Trying to convince them to play a more varied setlist is a much better proposition that trying to get them to come to America more frequently than once a year.

Yeah, really. I can't think of an AMERICAN band that does more than one tour in the US per year...

Sawao should bring Hidetoshi along, I read one of his essays and he has almost perfect English.

His English is very good, but he doesn't have much to do with the pillows, and if I recall correctly, he's tired of American pillows fans contacting him to relay messages to Sawao and whatnot. I think it'd be more likely they'd bring along a translator than Hidetoshi.

It's my understanding that Hidetoshi doesn't like to relay messages to Sawao. He really doesn't have anything to do with the pillows other than the fact that he's Sawao's older brother. Also, flooding them with emails will not do any good. Many of them may not even get read.

I could relay a message. Maybe if you get names from enough people who want to hear their old stuff and maybe a song list of what you want to hear when they come back I could relay it to them and see what happens. However, I would rather do it closer to the time they are going to be touring here next year which I would GUESS would be sometime next summer. Maybe I could do it in late winter, early spring. That should give you guys enough time to get together what ever you need. I wouldn't make it too elaborate though. The picture thing probably wouldn't even be reguarded, it would be best just to get to the point.

EDIT: As far as MySpace is concerned, that's actually not a bad idea. Chie runs that page I believe and I know for a fact that noodles look at their page because Yoko sent me a comment personally. It may not be a bad idea if you all left comments on the pillows page asking to hear this stuff. That and whatever you guys want me to relay.

Also, snail mail may be more personal but you have to remember we are in the age of the internet so snail mail is more likely to get passed by. I honestly think keeping it simple, the MySpace thing and relaying a message to them would be your best bet.

if we are going to request specific songs we shouldn't go overboard. if they're doing a setlist of 15 songs I'd say any more than 3 requested songs is probably too much. they do have hardcore fans, but at a very minimum I assume at least half of the show attending fans come from the flcl angle. heck, we could come up with a questionaire/survey for next years tour and see just exactly what type of pillows fans are attending the shows. well that's an idea at least, I don't know if it's really nessesary.

also, getting a list of names together should be used in conjunction with snail mail for maximum greatness effect.

As long as they still tour NYC, idc what they play. Though of course I'd like to hear non-FLCL songs as well. But I'm thankful they even are coming to US, so it's up to them as far as I'm concerned.
Sounds selfish. >_<

I mean...yeah!! Get some Living Field, White Incarnation songs! PMl, TYMT!

Yeah!
