GOOD SONG CAMPAIGN. JOIN UP.
I decided to make a new topic for this, as the other one's about the third eye vids and i don't want to get that thread locked. So!:
how about this:
it says:
"sawao: The American fans also know of Fool on the Planet. And we love it. Our favorite albums are Please Mr. Lostman and the other early ones. Recently in a concert in Japan, you sang "Tonight" and other old songs. Please sing those wonderful songs in America. The otakus love the songs from FLCL, but most of your fans love the older songs. As such, we beg you to play these older songs in America.
I think that the first big step would be to flood him with emails about how much we love older stuff. Once they know that we really love more than just FLCL, they'd be more likely to play the songs they like rather than just what they think we want to hear.
Ideas so far are using the Japanese BBS, the Delicious Label Site, the pillows official site's email, and using the English BBS.
I think flooding the pillows official email with these would be the best. BUT! it'll only have a chance of working if lots of people do it, only once, from different email accounts. So, if they get like fifty-some odd emails from different people telling them how much we love the old stuff, odds are they may listen. If we could get 100 people that'd be even better.
once we get this organized, email me: marekenshin@gmail.com and I'll write you an email to send them.
EDIT: ACTUALLY, reply stating email address and what you want requested.

I sent you an e-mail titled "Imma Ready", just so you aren't confused.

I'm not sure how true it is. From our perspective, they are drawing from a very narrow range of their discography, but we are the hardcorest English-speaking fans, and we don't necessarily have an accurate guage of how many of their fans are just there because of FLCL songs.

The idea is to get them to broaden the range of good songs. It's not about "hey nobody likes FLCL stop playing ROSS!!!1"
It's about "Hey, we'd love it if you played some early stuff too. Thanks! You guys rock!!!"

That's very true. No matter how much we on IM love their entire discography, I KNOW that our numbers pale in comparison to the massive horde of Adult Swim-worshipping, Naruto-headbanding, ROSS-fellating "otaku" kids who come to the shows.
I think it's a large overstatement to say that "most American fans" even KNOW what White Incarnation is. This matter should be handled delicately. Yet forcefully.
::moved from Third Eye Tour topic:
Don't just focus on Please Mr. Lostman. Make it a more general statement about their entire discography. Or maybe not send them the letter at all and let them play what they want.
Right. But this is probably what's happening:
::Sawao learns that the pillows have a pretty decent sized fan-base in America:: How'd this happen (they're not even very big in Japan)? Probably because their music was used in FLCL - In America, while anime is still a prety niche sector as far as the entertainment industry goes, FLCL is a well-known and well-loved title. A lot of people watching FLCL = a lot of people hearing the pillows.
So it makes perfect sense that they would want to play songs that were used in FLCL. People would go "Oh right! I've heard this song before, I love this!" It's safe and pretty damn effective. If they play their FLCL-work and new stuff, it's a good bet that they're going to be satisfying a lot of people. If I were Sawao, I'd be doing the same thing.
The pillows were really surprised that they had a cult following in the US The surprise that they still don't know about is that many of those fans have listened to their older work, and value it just as much (sometimes even more). Sawao doesn't know yet that many American fans yearn to hear their older classics during a live show - Please Mr. Lostman, Fool on the Planet, Strange Chameleon, Bokura no Haree Suisei, Good Morning Good News...Daydream Wonder.
I expect that, for their next US tour, they will play a good mix of songs from the new album, as well as the classic standbys that everybody knows: Blues Drive Monster, Little Busters, Ride on Shooting Star, Crazy Sunshine. This somewhat disappoints me.
Someone really needs to get the message across to the pillows. Yes, we know Fooly Cooly. But we also know White Incarnation, Living Field, and Please Mr. Lostman - and we love all of them.
::end paste::
And that's right, Marekenshin. The idea not that we don't like the "FLCL-stuff"...because we really do. Moreover, we just want to hear a broader range of their music.
Again, careful wordings are essential.
Don't let this idea die, Mare. Letters, electronic or otherwise, must be sent. This topic sure is preferable to the "fave solo" "least favorite album" "coolest hair" drivel that's been plaguing IM in boredom for sometime.

i think no matter what at every american show we're going to hear plenty of FLCL era stuff like the songs you listed above. but i think if they pay attention to these letters we send them, they'll mix it up and start adding some songs in from PML, Smile, etc. that way appeasing both the otaku and hardcore fans. but this of course has to work first

The issue should not be whether or not the majority knows the old songs. They could whip out Naked Shuffle in a room full of fat, sweaty otakus and the kids wouldn't think twice about it. The worst that could happen is an FLCL fan hears the old song and doesn't look it up later. It's a win-win situation.

This is a good idea. It would be easy for all of us to leave them MySpace comments to this effect.
Naked Shuffle? Good idea, but I doubt Yoshiaki can still play it.

I'm not sure that bombarding them with emails would be the most well-recieved approach - I think a lot of people probably get annoyed with an inbox full of tons of emails about the same thing.
But aside from simply pointing them to IM and saying that most everyone here agrees with what you're saying, I can't think of a better plan for what you want to achieve at the moment. Ah well.
I can write my own email. Just point me where it needs to be sent, and I'll get around to it at some point.

Same here, just tell me where to send a e-mail to and I'll get it done.

I think they already know to some extent that there's a good number of people here that are familiar with the older works. They must have taken notice of all the people bringing old albums to sign and shouting out old songs at concerts. I think the real problem is that they (or Geneon) don't want to play songs that aren't readily available in the US.
EDIT: I just remembered that survey that was sent out before their first tour. Among the questions that were asked were "What albums do you own?" and "What songs do you want to hear live?" Since practically EVERYONE at IM at the time answered it, they must know that there's some "hardcore" fans here.

They performed Swanky Street last year in NY.
