Visual Kei has (mostly) flat guitar, bass, and yes, the "drums "are easy to redo.
the pillows/good Japanese Rock is something else to me.
Edit: They obviously haven't heard their 1990-1995 (or 7) stuff.

they claim they did listen to that...they have "every album" and such. but the main reason i suppose they are all "omfg! pillows suckz0rz and overrated!" is because they compare it to their favorite music....which is VK
and yeah, we all think VK sucks when compared to the pillows, they do the same just vice versa
anyway, i still have to wonder why the fuck i even read that whole thread. go warai and foolontheplanet for standing up for us...you were pretty outnumbered.

God damn it. Stop caring what they think. Every one of us here knows the pillows are good. We don't need to convince every single weeaboo.
Speaking of this band, where the fuck is the new release?

well i have to somewhat agree that piilows seem to be experimenting with Pop in a lot of their recent songs, like Gazelle City and BeeHive was just pop, most of the albums after Penalty Life albums have been poorest with a couple of decent songs, Thank You my Twilight has to be the best album in 2000 era for the pillows, along with Another Morning Another Pillows....guess the pillows are going through some transition, hopefully they get back to the jazz or even try out some progressive rock....Dream Theater style eh...atleast the singer is much better in this case

enough of this guys. the reason you're here is because you like the pillows. i dont think this is the place to be hating on a band in the forum that happens to be dedicated to the band.
besides, i wanna see some new releases too.

AMAP doesn't count in my book since it was a comp from various eras.
But yeah, TYMT really kinda stands alone.
I feel that Good Dreams as a whole was a better album than My Foot, but that My Foot has some individual songs that beat the individual songs off Good Dreams.
Also, god forbid I agree with Jomei about anything, but...his post really is t3h w1nz.

I, for one, love the pillows' pop-iness. I really appreciated My Foot.
You have to consider the sorry state that pop music is in right now. It's giving the genre "pop" a bad name. Remember a band that disbanded 15 years ago (come this September 5) called QUEEN? They are the quintessential pop rock band, and they kicked some serious ass.
You don't have to be jazzy or progressive to make quality music. However, pop rock is universal - it's something anyone can pick up and understand. Pop music can be good. It surprises me how many people have abandoned pop and have written it off as the devil's music since boy bands and solo vocalists came to the scene.
Currently, pop music is devoid of solos, riffs, and leaves only a catchy melody for one to ponder. The pillows manage to combine all three aspects, which is something that every great pop band has done over the past five decades. Queen certainly did it - to perfection. Van Halen did it. The Beatles fucking pwned it. The Who did it. Who's next? The pillows.

I'm gonna try taking the opposite side of what may be expected. It actually makes sense to me.
Sure, there are people out there who've listened to the pillows and have said "Yeah, it's alright. Kinda boring though." That's fine. I'm not going to force them to listen to Daydream Wonder four times in order to get a "valid" opinion out of them.
I think we're all using somewhat of a double standard here, when it comes to defending the band we love so much.
I mean, just think about it. How many times have you turned on the TV to see a music video for some band like Yellowcard of AFI and immediately said "this is complete shit"? I know I've done it.
Did I just judge AFI as a whole based on just a few samples of songs. Yeah. Is that a bad thing? Maybe.
In a perfect world, we'd all give bands a fair shot. We'd all listen to one of their albums, and think about the band rationally - forgetting about however the band might be labeled. Doesn't matter that the main singer in AFI looks like a woman. You're judging purely the music.
Well, we don't live in a perfect world. We've got limited time, and we want to maximize our utility. That means that we listen to music that makes us genuinely happy while looking for more than will do the same.
I'd honestly love to say "Oh, those people on the forum are all idiots. Can't they see that Living Field and Please Mr. Lostman are both AMAZING albums? They have no credibility. They must only listen to Ride on Shooting Star. Don't they understand that L'arc~en~Ciel isn't quality music?" It's easy to do that. I've been known to be a little pushy in my taste in music. But outright bashing the users on those forums isn't right.
There are always people, including you and me, who pass unfair judgements on music. Whether it's based on the band's name, their image, their popularity, the fact that they're mainstream, the look of the band members...it happens. Making rash judgements like that is how we save time.
People disagreeing vehemently with us, saying that Little Busters was "boring" doesn't make them stupid, and it doesn't make their opinion invalid. It makes them just very similar to us.
