 Battle Royale
Who here has seen this amazingly awesome movie? Prolly my favorite japanese movie ever...except for possibly rashomon.
edit: for those who haven't seen it, here is a very short backgroud...no spoilers here: Takes place in future japan, but not too far in the future. Unemployment is high, and kids are boycotting school, thus, the government makes the BR act, which basically sends a class of 9th grade kids to an island and given weapons and equipment to fight to the death (until only one of them is left) in a 48 hour period or they all die. This is the story of one of those classes.
/side note - i read that they are making an english remake of this movie also - hope it turns out as good.

Seen it. The American remake will suck more than the sequel.
It's got some hilarious stuff in it. Like when the guy is lying in a pool of his own blood when his girlfriend comes over (she was the one who shot him on accident) and he says "Yuki... you're so cute."
Comedy gold.

Don't forget Beat Takeshi's death scene.
So the sequel was that bad, eh? It's been sitting on my HD waiting to be watched for a while now.

The sequel is really not interesting at all. I suppose it technically has more plot and story going on, but...just...it...eh.

The first movie and the book are both good.

My favorite Japanese movie, as well. I neverr did get the Takeshi death scene. Still funny, though.

The kids in the sequel had infinite ammo hax and 2 kids beat an entire army of ppl. Man they really had skills. The book was the best. It gave a lot more insight into kiriyama and mitsuko. But sugimura will always be the coolest.

Probably because it was directed by Fukusaku's kid instead of him. I mean, he had a good reason to... the senior Fukusaku died in the middle of production. But I kind of wish he had just let the film sit rather than finish it. It's pretty bad.

complete piece of crap. to be compared with bond movies or charlie's angels or something. too many people love things just because they're japanese.

Book came today. It looks to be in really good shape too, aside from the previous fucker crossing our all the kids' names on the front page. In pen.

He wanted to keep track of them when they died. That sucks. You want the list?

Nah, I can read the names still. It's just a line drawn through most of them in pen, so I'm pissed off. I get irritated when people write in books (unless they're textbooks), especially in pen.
