You have a nylon guitar?

But seriously, they are pretty decent. They might have played at my college if the freakin committee in charge of choosing the band wasn't retarded at the time and didn't choose OAR instead. I mean, who chooses OAR over The Decemberists? Seriously.

They are extremely gimmicky if you ask me. They seemingly combined Neutral Milk Hotel's strangeness and Elf Power's music into one band. It aggirvates me.

i really dont hear any similarity with elf power, alot of other bands sound closer to elf power but
neutral milk hotel and decemberists sorta have a similar sound in at least half of the decemberists songs
they've been compared with each other well decemberists to nmh since nmh was before their time
but i like the decemberists alot more- you should give them another shot and listen to some more songs

but if they still aggirvate you then the following is bad news:
they've just signed with capitol records so we'll probably hear more of them now lol

How will I hear more of them. Look, I donwloaded both of the albums. They just come across as pretentious and gimmicky. Not to say elf power doesn't seem pretentious to me in their latest album...
