CDM: does this mean that Dinosaur Jr. and Cave In aren't post-respect metal? Is Connor Oberst really the next industrial Barbara Streisand?, I'm so confused right now...If only Matt Pinfield was here...(blank stare)

who the heck cares. They don't cover all indie music, and they're just a couple hyped bands you seem to have latched on to. I could care less about the names you just mentioned.

CDM: wasn't knocking indie as a genre...just think the pillows have long outgrown the need for taxonomy...if you ever had the chance to see Dinosaur Jr. back in the day, before the magazines insisted on deifying J. Mascis (community center in NY in 1993, almost got them to play "in a jar"), you would have seen that they loved their fans and were the real deal...though I wasn't exactly thrilled when "without a sound" came out... so maybe I kinda understand the pain in your foot.

Coming into this a bit late. Directed here from the topic...
::Reads through everything::
Wait wait wait... let me get this straight. The man reviews pillows music, doesn't like what he hears and makes some (admittantly strange) comparisons to what he's seen and likes that people here don't agree to and the hardcore fans freak out saying he has no right to listen to/review pillows music and HE'S the elitist?
I'm as much a fan of the pillows as anyone here, but wake up... just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them wrong or evil, even if it's your most favorite thing in the world.
This obviously doesn't apply to everyone here, but I felt it was something that needed to be said.

I think you're more pointing out what has become "faux indie" these days, that aren't really independent anymore, or have copied some of the indie ideas, and now parade it under the name indie.

CDM: I could not agree more with you, to me it seems like so many of these bands try to suck you into supporting them and then when Atlantic or whoever comes sniffing around its like, uh yeah "we're an arena band now!, sorry no more small venues til our records stop selling", I spose the $$ are hard to resist when you've got a wardrobe and stylist to support... who do you think is still relevant? I really only want to support bands that are in it for the long haul.

I'm pretty much obsessed with elephant 6 bands. check out elephant6.com for a list of bands. Those are good guys. One of the guys that played in a few of my favorite bands(olivia tremor control, gerbils, marshmallow coast) came from my hometown. Says he's going to come back down here sometime, and he'd let me know when, and I could play with him and whatever.

I dig OTC atmosphere (juvi question: do you like T-REXX style?). I'd like to check out the joy division covers 7" thing on the hhbtm label, I absolutely claim those tunes from the 80's (trent reznor had NO business covering them! that guy invented "latching on" ) and the "she wants revenge" stuff is like "genuine imitation crabmeat"...have you ever heard of the brit band "The Charlatans", everyone is forever on Ian Brown's wang but I think they are frankly alot more accomplished and sooo down for the peeps, I'm so sad I missed them in Chicago in May. Check out the tracks on "Up to our hips" , it really puts all their other stuff into context.
