It is kinda weird when Sawao says, "Do you like FLCL!?!" before playing Ride on shooting star, though . . .
I think the pillows created ROSS and I Think I Can for FLCL. Or am I going to be beaten for my lack of knowledge by the more educated forum members?
Yup. But it's still seems awkward to me, at least in the video, from here.
Kozumou, your comment on ANN: "the pillows suck except for the stuff in FLCL." That post wasn't on Instant Music, it was on ANN. The sarcasm doesn't really carry over.
Eh. I don't care where it was posted. Omnistry knew/will know that I wasn't being serious, and that's all that mattered. I don't care what the other people over there think. (And I actually made another post, too, that contradicted that one, so, if they see that . . .) Initially, I had omnistry: "good stuff", me: . And then I edited it.

WOW! I feel so bad now! Some guy posted, being really nice but saying "I beg to differ" and such, and listing some really great non-FLCL songs. You were absolutely right, GoldenRhino, and that was stupid of me. I truly didn't think that would happen. By the way, I directed him here.

I'll come out and say, that the first time I listened to My Foot, I was like WTF? I totally didn't like it the first time around. It wasn't the pillows I knew and loved. But slowly but surely, it grew on me. I think it's a good album for today, and I'm sure a lot of peeps dogged Happy Bivouac and Runner's High when they came out, especially after Kool Spice and Living Field. Smile and TYMT kind of slipped thru the cracks as post FLCL albums. I think their sound gradually changed as more CD's were released. And I think a lot of people have been unhappy with the transition since Penalty Life to Good Dreams. Point is, some of us will wear out our favorite CD from playing it 24/7 while other people will leave the same album on the shelf for six months. Everybody's going to have a different favorite album and a different least favorite. I don't think anybody's opinion of best and worst album/song will even come close to each other. That being said, I rave about my fav tracks like Gazelle City and Non Fiction, the tracks I introduce to my friends, and on the other hand, I just don't talk about my least favorite songs like Degeneration and My Girl. Sorry for going on and on...

Re: This man knows nothing!

-snip-
You sir, don't know anything. TYMT has been their best work since Happy Bivouac. How can YOU skip over that awesome album and claim that MY FOOT has that title? Please. You just lost any crediblity I thought you might have had.
I do like Thank you, my twilight more than MY FOOT (should've said best album since TYMT). I just said HB because, well, I don't know. Maybe 'cause the dumb party in the Otaku world would know HB more than that great album. At least I told him to import "Living Field".
To sort of make this up, I promise to play "Biscuit Hammer" tonight.

A good thing to remember is that no matter what your favorite album is, these guys are artists, so their playing, sound etc. is going to evolve over time. How many bands have put out as many good albums and can boast such an impressive catalogue of songs??! very few American or Japanese bands are as consistently good/creative as our beloved pillows. Personally, in the light of their career as a whole, MY FOOT is a highly stylized/ refined, energetic release from a band thats been around for 16+ years, I was very pleased when I first heard it. I really can't believe how cool they are about playing their old stuff though at shows, none of the "new material high horse" nonsense. I think more people need to hear the stuff on the live DVD's such as 916 and BOTP, to me that is the real pillows, their amazing chemistry, I also thought the MY FOOT stuff sounded amazing live (what little they played of it). I think Manabe is much more capable on the guitar than he lets on.

This guy is full of shit!

The guy that wrote this seems to be ranting against the pillows more than he is writing a review.
However, i think the idea that My Foot was more of the same, just worse, is partially true.

riot: knowing culture shouldn't have anything to do with reviewing an album, although the language might help in this case...
setokiri: i had the same reaction, mostly because of the blatant indie-ness that the intro to "my foot" has.. it's not the pillows in any way, shape or form, and it was a trick to pull in the indie audience, which is a very huge audience, i regret to admit.

oh please, there's no style set in stone that will attract the "indie" audience.

MY FOOT is 100% pillows?! and I don't see any "trickery" going, all I see is Manabe playing a mean guitar and just having fun, trying different things (the sound is actually a lot more like Thin Lizzy's "Cowboy Song" than some indie rubbish). You cannot permanently hold a band to their old material, you have to let them grow, if anything its just makes the old stuff that much more interesting...besides that reviewer needs his ears checked because MY FOOT does NOT sound like Penalty Life, if you actually listen carefully the two they are very different, if anything you should just be thankful that a band that has been around this long can still write such good songs because most "indie/rock/punk/alterna blah blah" bands crapped out years ago. MY FOOT has a very different attitude than any of their previous albums, I think this is what bothers some people.

oh shut about this 'indie trash" thing. You obviously don't know anything about it.
