I just saw some kid's pictures on LJ. Sawao was using a new guitar I see. Squire '51 in maple. Indivi is telling me that the Cyclone was giving out. I wonder why, LA?
The situation is still unresolved. The manhunt goes on. We are sending out our remaining Quizno's agents as we speak.

Tonight I'm going to be talking about this whole incident. He will be the recipient of the first ever "George W. Bush Dumbass of the Year" award. He might show up to accept.
they played a really short song which might have been propose... i didn't recognize it at all so i could be wrong.
oh it wasnt propose. it was a nirvana song. if which one im not totally sure. but it was a nirvana song.
oh man, that concert rocked. thank god the other bands played an increadibly short set. Secret Secret, im sorry to say, was the worst band that night. The pillows? oh man no words can describe how good they were. haha i thought it was funny when he dropped his guitar and just kicked it behind him. oh man, best show ever.
i stayed off to the front/side which worked out well, because i was right under a blast of cold air most of the time, and i mostly avoided the shoving/moshing. o__o
Probably the opposite side from me, then ^^; I was on the left (Jun) side, right infront of the merch booth, just to the side of the stairs. Except for the fact that the only other tall person in the area was standing directly infront of me for a bit, for most of the show, I had a bit of room and a pretty good view, and didn't get terribly hot. (Your spot reminds me of when I saw Coheed and Cambria last fall, though, Terra, since the venue was hot/sweaty as hell and I ended up standing right under a vent for most of the show)
I didn't see anyone - but then again Terra was the only one who had posted any sort of description that I remembered. I did have two possible sightings... a blond-haired guy in an Ivy shirt that looked vaguely familar from some of the pics that were posted here last year and a dude talking about his friend who drove in from Utah?
I first got to to Slim's a bit after 8 - left a little later than I wanted to than got pwned by god damned construction. (For those who live in the area), they were doing construction on the 24 a little after the tunnel, coming up on the 580. ONLY ONE LANE WAS OPEN. And, without turning my Pillows rant into a construction incompetency rant, I'll just say how unbelievably poor the entire down-merger was done. It took me half an hour to go a mile and a half.
Anyway, when I got to Slim's and walked up to the ticket booth next to the door to get my ticket, Lemon Drop Kick (the only opening act I was semi-interested in) was already playing. I heard some of 1140, but they played out the rest of their set when I was around the corner, a block down the street waiting on line to get in. I got into the venue a few minutes after 8:30, just as the second trio of opening acts was starting to play. They opened with 'Flashback', an Asian Kung-Fu Generation cover. Didn't sound bad, but you could barely hear their singer. I bought a Rock'N'Roll Sinners shirt and a keychain set, then went downstairs to use the bathroom. When I came back up I decided that the landing area between the steps and the merchandise booth was a decent area to try and set myself up in, and ended up staying there for the entire concert.
And then while not unbearable, SecretSecret definately wasn't a good fit for the Pillows, especially as the last opening act. They actually got a semi-decent reaction from the crowd, but after the entire show everyone was making SecretSecret jokes.
But, finally, a bit earlier than expected, and one opening act short (Since two of the opening acts had played together), Shin and Sawao make an appearance on the stage. Sawao got a big reaction, especially when he came to the side of the stage infront of the lowered projector screen and posed for the crowd for a minute.
To summize - THEY ROCKED. Quick additional props should be given to:
-Manabe: To be honest, from some of the recordings I've heard in the past, it had sounded like he wasn't always on for solos when playing live. I was incredibly wrong. He owned anything and everything he played.
-Sawao's engrish: Anything the guy said put the crowd into a frenzy.
The setlist was plenty acceptable enough (The Third Eye rocked). Though, like most other people, I really wouldn't mind them dropping 1-3 FLCL songs for some TYMT/Smile stuff. I guess our 'special treat' as the last show was that quick Nirvana cover (granted, which was nice), but when Sawao had said the things about this being the last show of the tour, I did develop a bit of false hope for like Swanky Street/Strange Chameleon.
And, I'm not sure if he was doing the same at the other shows, but after the encore, Sawao's final words of the night were "See you next year!" (And just hoping that 'next year' is during Spring Break or summer again for me, so I'm here and not in Hawaii >.>)

Yeah. Shin seemed to look his age, but everyone else looked like 10 years younger.

This was awesome beyond words!
I got to see them while I was waiting in line, they were back behind the building around 7:50 smoking.
Then while the other bands were playing, they were back there eating some unrecognizable food.
Unfortunately it was too dark, and I was too far for my camera to take any decent pictures.

I know that Sawao dropped his guitar, but its not uncommon for musicians to drop their instruments during performances. In fact, Sawao has done it to stage dive before. I don't think it's completely ruined.

What an amazing show. Time for another really long post!
So I got to Kinokuniya around 3:30 and met up with terra, Lepton (who actually drove all the way from Texas to see the California shows), and some other guy (Jason maybe?). We chatted for a while before the pillows showed up. They arrived around 4:15 and did a couple of interviews with the Shibuya Airwaves people and someone else. From what little I heard, it was just the same generic questions that they get asked all the time. After that was done, they set aside a little time for fans to ask questions. terra and I were the only ones that really jumped at the opportunity.
I was the first one with a question, and I asked Manabe why he decided to switch to a Jagmaster for live shows and what he likes about it. He said that he wanted to start fresh with this album, and a new guitar would give him new ideas. I was hoping for something a little more technical than that, but I think he either didn't want to confuse other people there or something got lost in translation. Oh, and after Manabe answered the question, Sawao grabbed the mic and said "I like your shirt" (yes, I was the guy in the Ivy shirt). I replied back "Yeah, I like noodles."
After the questions were done with, they started an autograph session. This turned out to be one of the real highlights of my day. I brought 90's My Life Returns for them to sign, and even the stone-faced Shinichiro laughed and gave it a second look, like "You've got to be kidding me." Manabe really laughed when and said "Wow" when he saw it. I also took this opportunity to to ask him about a new Nine Miles album, and he said he's working on it right now.
And now on to the concert. The opening bands... well, yeah. Lemon Drop Kick was ok, even though most of their songs sounded very similar. When the next band came on and started playing I thought, "Hmm, these guys aren't that bad." But then when the vocals came in, I recognized the song. It was Rewrite by ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION. Great, an hour of anime songs. The only other song that I recognized was Stay Away by L'Arc~en~Ciel. I will give some props to the bass player, though. He almost pulled off that song. And then of course there was Secret Secret. wtf...
But waiting through that shit was totally worth it to see the pillows. I'd actually like to thank all those idiots who were trying to mosh for helping me get a lot closer to the stage. When they got on stage, I was pretty far back, but by like the 4th or 5th song I was almost right next to Manabe. Speaking of Manabe, he was really amazing. Especially when he made sweet, sweet love to his guitar on Beautiful Morning with You. I yelled out Propose a few times, but to no avail. When they started playing a song I didn't know, I was thinking "Awesome! This is it!" But it turned out to be Breed by Nirvana. Which I think was just as cool, especially since it looked like they decided to do that on the spot.
the pillows really put tremendous energy into all of the songs. Especially Hybrid Rainbow. When Sawao put down his guitar and grabbed the mic during the final chorus, everyone there was yelling at the top of their lungs. In general, the crowd was really good (except for the moshing, but that died down towards the end of the show). Even though it looked like it was made up of about 90% anime fans (terra and I saw a few too many Naruto headbands ), they knew how to rock. I really hope some good footage from this show makes it to the DVD.

No, that guitar was actually a gift from someone. The Shibuya Airwaves people maybe.
When they came out for the encore, Sawao said "Thank you San Francisco, for the guitar."

Your wording kinda confused me. Are you saying, no, that the Squire he was playing was a gift? (Which btw I haven't seen a picture of) That doesn't really pertain to my post, because I was saying that his cyclone probably isn't ruined from the LA show.

Whoops, sorry. I fail at quoting.
I meant that the Squire was a gift and that there didn't seem to be anything wrong with his Cyclone.

Oh, so it was Rewrite they played? Shows you how much I could hear their singer.
And you were the guy (with the blonde hair?) in the Ivy shirt? I think I saw you after the show.
