Jagmaster vs Mustang
Which guitar suits Manabe better?

I'd go with the Mustang.... Shit, this kid I have to babysit bought a Mustang and fucking screwed it up. (At least I get good money for babysitting... $20 an hour... )

Mustang is definately the visual style I prefer, and I truly love the tone.
But after seeing Manabe on the Jagmaster (never played one) they both are pretty kickass.

That is such a cliche... its practically lost all meaning.
And I'm not saying its better. I'm just saying that I like how it looks. Thats all.

I don't know, I'm starting to really like the sound of his Jagmaster from the live videos. Maybe he's just doing something different with his effects, but it generally sounds less "muddy" than his Mustang does live. Anyone want to tell me why the Jagmaster sucks (other than the fact that it's a Squier)?

I don't have any real problem with the Jagmaster. I'd like to get a Vista series one, in fact. I did feel disappointed, however, both when Yoko switched to Cyclone and when Manabe switched to the Explorer... then I felt a little better when he settled on the Jagmaster.

Yes, I know.

I have noticed that he's doing something different whenever he uses the Jagmaster. It sounds pretty good, actually better than the preformances were he uses his Mustang.

maybe his guitar sounds good/diffrent because it has humbuckers?

Mmm, yes. Maybe a bit more powerful, "chunky" tone.
And the fact that it's a Squier...well, other than the pickups, is it an alright guitar from the get go?

Assuming that Manabe has an original '96 MIJ Jagmaster Vista, that is one great guitar. That was back when Squier, not to mention Squier Japan, had actual quality products. But even if it's a newer one, I've heard that Squier Japan is pretty good.

Manabe is a pro musician, so chances are he's gigging a MIJ model. It fits his style a whole lot better than a Mustang- since Manabe plays with a good amount of distortion, humbuckers work much better. I always thought his Mustang sounded thin and plinky when overdriven, especially for live performances. I suspect he was getting fed up with it, too, since he popped a single-size humbucker into the bridge position for a while. I don't know what pickups are in the Jagmaster, but if he shelled out some cash for Duncan Antiquities or something even nicer (WCR, anyone?), than it would sound absolutely killer.

It's a straight, off-the-shelf Squier Jagmaster, just like you'd get in any discount guitar store here in the states. If it sounds different, it's due to effects.
I know because he told me so; he wanted to be able to replace his concert equipment easily and quickly if the airlines destroyed another guitar like they did his Mustang.
The additional benefit is that it only costs $250, and anyone that wants to play what he plays can get one. He was very pleased about that fact.
Did anyone notice? They brought very few crew and almost no equipment with them this tour. They had their own guitars and effects boards but used borrowed equipment for everything else. They really got *streamlined* for this tour, which makes me think they plan to do a lot more here in the states...or *did*, until shit-for-brains jumped up on the stage in LA.....
