It was a decent show. I was kinda glad that too much My Foot didn't make it in there.

The moshing annoyed me. Trying to get pictures and video is a bit difficult when you're trying to avoid being crushed by a guy who's a head taller than you, standing in front of you. I ended up migrating over by Jun, where the crowd was calmer. There were these three fucker kids wearing the Mickey Buster shirt, who just shoved their way out of the crowd and then just shoved their way right back in and up to the front several times over the course of the show.

It was looking really uncertain if they were going to come back out at all for sure, so I ended up bothering them for autographs and stuff right after they came down. They were friendly enough about it, but I got the impression that they were just putting up with me because I was a fan. Maybe because they were taking down all their gear at the same time.

Sawao didn't get really nice till I mentioned Spiky Brothers.

Anyway, we have pictures and some video from the show. Got pictures and video of Light Pollution and I Need Sleep, too. They'll end up around here eventually.

If anyone from IM recognized me, nobody said hi. Probably for fear of being B&.

Not sure, but it seemed like the placed was packed. I expected a lot less people. I was kinda scared it would be the IM people and random people who picked up tix cuz they go to tons of shows.

That's good to hear. Maybe Logan capacity is only like 500 but I could have swore it was 800. Oh well, it's good to know they had a decent turn out.

Just got a message from Chie and she said the show went wonderfully and was very grateful for the help. This is good news because they were considering not coming back to Chicago if this show didn't go well but it looks like it was a success! WOO HOO!

Thanks to all of you who made it out to see them. :)

Well, to bad I missed it. My friend who went said that Sawao said it was being filmed by Pros, so maybe we'll get a DVD of the My Foot Tour US. Hopefully I get to make to the LA show.

Well, I had a great time at the show last night. I went with my GF and as soon as we got in I was disappointed with the venue. It looked like a gymnasium!! Plus there is not much security for backstage whatsoever. Of course this worked out to our advantage ;)

So we were hanging out on the floor and I figured the GF wanted to sit down until the show started cause she's been working a lot. I looked up at the balcony and noticed people were hanging out up there so we headed for it. We took the stairs right behind the bar and almost immediately I knew we weren't suppose to be up there considering all the beer they stored upstairs and it looked pretty ghetto. Nobody stopped us though so we get to the balcony and chilled out for a bit and I got a chair for the GF and myself. Then we decided to go back down when the show started but when we went to the back rooms my GF noticed the pillows getting ready for the show. Obviously we did a 180 and sat back down at the balcony. Since we finally noticed this was backstage we had to act cool so nobody would kick us out. This was funny since I was getting excited I'd be watching the show with the pillows until they did their set.

Then they come out to the balcony to check things out and then people noticed they were up there so everybody starts screaming and taking photos (BTW I'm the guy with the black '05 good dream Tshirt and spiky hair and glasses, the GF was wearing a cute skirt and a cute miller high life shirt that was salmon colored...also wearing glasses with strawberry blond hair). This must have scared them off a little because they went back into their room until the light pollution played.

Then they came out again since everyone was paying attention to Light Pollution. I think it was at this time Manabe noticed my shirt and giggled a little. I think he might have noticed me from acen last year...who knows. The Light Pollution was playing by this time so we just chilled right next to each for their set. I thought Light Pollution had a good set actually. I always enjoy watching bands that have slightly odd instruments (accordion, trumpet, trombone, keyboard) in the mix. My GF pointed a hilarious thing about the keyboardist for any band, "I feel so sorry for the keyboardist because he/she always seems like they want to rock out the most but they really can't with a keyboard." It made it even funnier cause that keyboardist rocked out a lot while he was on stage.

During the Light Pollution set we noticed something that was very odd about a certain group within the audience. You know who you are...right side of the stage..."ONE OF US!!"...synchronized dancing. I'm not going to tell you people you shouldn't have done that....but you all looked like fools. I guess the point of a show is to have fun and it seemed like you guys were having fun :)

By this time I Need Sleep was getting to the stage and unfortunately the pillows went back in to get ready. They popped in and out during the second set but didn't really hang around much for I Need Sleep. This band was very fun and energetic but all their songs sounded the same. My GF thinks the whole dual drum set is kind of dumb and I agree with her. Especially since a lot of their drumming sounded extremely similar. Maybe that's what they were going for and if it was then kudos to them for doing it well.

Finally, the pillows get on stage and all hell breaks loose. This band has approximately 17 years of rocking out under their belts and they sure did show it off. We were still on the balcony and we stayed for the whole pillows set. Even though this venue was crappy we had an excellent view of the stage. I was pissed I didn't have a camera with me. It's funny how a lot of their music seems slow and not very energetic on their albums but live it's extremely loud and very energetic no matter what song they play. The one song I thought sounded different the most was My Foot. Jun's bass intro sounds sooooo much better live as well as the whole song. I'm so happy they played other songs besides the FLCL tracks. They did cover FLCL but they had plenty of time to play other songs. Of course my hero guitarist, Manabe, did an excellent job on all my fav solos by him. "I Think I Can" comes to mind as well as "advice" for my fav solos during the evening. Their set ends and the bliss goes away.

After the performance Acen passed out their stuff from the balcony. My GF threw out a few pandas (she hit the trash can lid used in I Need Sleeps performance held by some crazy fan.) so did I. This is where everyone should have saw us cause we were right next to all of the acen people. After that we went to the back and gave our congrats to the pillows and we could only get grunts and agreeable moans from them since they were obviously beat from their performance. Oh Yeah!! we totally saw two of the pillows with no shirts on

Then we get out of the place and my GF was very pleased with the concert (so was I). She was very surprised out how good they were live. Of course I have been saying this to all of my friends since acen last year. She's the only one that listened to my rantings, yet another reason why I enjoy being with her.

Sounds like you and your girl had a good time there Brian, glad to hear it.

As far as the venue is concerned, that was the best Bojan could do. The band tried for The Metro and when that didn't pan out, Bojan was originally going to book them at Beat Kitchen but the date was not available. At any rate, I'm glad you had a good time.

I thought it was an okay venue, actually. It wasn't a total dive or anything. I noticed the lack of backstage security too - one guy I talked to had apparently just run past the bar and up the stairs, intending to get the pillows to sign his stuff before he got caught. And it went off without a hitch. Also, he apparently got to see Jun with no pants on.

Sawao's face lit up when I asked him to come back to Chicago and play Shiroi Natsu. Makes me wonder if it's one of those songs that the band themselves love, but can't play live often for some reason.

EDIT: I noticed that Manabe seems to be using a Squier Jagmaster now (I think). Their amps looked notably different as well. Guess there's some real gear experimentation going on.

What happened to Manabe's orange amp? He changed guitars alot but I always see him with that orange amp.

It's probably better they didn't get the metro. Otherwise the place would be extremely packed. The venue was alright I guess. Their sound setup is far too large for the size room it is. They would have been fine with the model below the JBL model they had. They could have done with a bit less sub. I noticed every band had a slight vocal volume issue. Some parts I couldn't hear singing at all especially with the over powering drum cymbals and bass. This could have been because I was in the balcony. The balcony did seem like a bit of a sound trap since it was so close to the ceiling.

Still was an amazing show. I really enjoyed seeing them play at a real venue here in chicago than the grand ballroom of acen. I'd like to see them play at the metro though despite the crowd. They'll definitely be coming back next year so everyone keep an eye out for them.

By the way, if any members from the bands are on this board or if anyone here was on the balcony...thanks for not kicking us out ;)

Yeah you are right. I'm so used to seeing it though I didn't remember last years amp. That orange is huge so I can see why it was left in japan. I forgot to mention I might be going to japan this august with a friend of mine. Will the pillows be doing any shows then in japan? My guess is no since they'd be getting off (or maybe even still on) their US tour.
OH!! just want to say thanks to everyone here on the board. If it wasn't for this place I probably would not have known about the pillows being back in chicago.
