Earthbound, Star Ocean, most Mario games, Shining Force, and the Contra games all come to mind.

Try the New Super Mario Brothers for the DS.
It's a new game but with an old-school feel.

gunstar superheroes is another great new game for gba, plays like an old sidescrolling shooter. but if you want to play the real thing, i recommend sunset riders. the old star fox for snes is fun. R-type. etc.

Finishing that one up right now. I'm currently in Summers.
I'm also playing Crono Trigger and Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Probably not all that old-school, but if you can find it try Radiant Silvergun. Best shoot-em-up ever. One day I hope to own a copy of it.

I concur.

i have a friend who bought a SNES (after its prime, not when it was new) solely for that game, and that is the only SNES game he owns.

Mega Man & Bass, Street Fighter II, all 3 of the SNES Final Fantasys are going to be released (IV is already out), plus the WSC versions of FF I & II (on one cart!!).. Breath of Fire I and II.. Various Mario games.. Tons of older games were ported to GBA.

It's a gem of a game escpecially with it's cute, nostalgic graphics with Yoshi and the others. It's the perfect puzzler for all skill levels.
