2:25 of Swanky Street when there is almost no guitar part except Manabe playing that lead. The bass is brought out more. Don't forget to turn up the bass on your speakers.
Also listen to live performances. I could swear Kashima improvises on those (listen Live Beat '97).
You know what blows me away about these Jun Suzuki converstaions is most bass players are mediocre at best and you guys are acting like he's the worst bass player on the planet. He's better than 90% of the American bass players out there. The fact that you guys are always going on about how mediocre he is baffles me. Kashima was kind of a bass genius but he is rare breed. If the pillows did get a different bass player, chances are he wouldn't be any better than Suzuki anyway.
I disagree. I've never heard Jun play anything on bass that was beyond my ability, and I'm not very good at bass at all. He might be better than 90% of the bassists, if you include amateurs, but as far as people who make their living playing bass, he is not a standout.

Billy Sheehan and John Myung alone make up 80% of the total pool of skill in the rock bass guitarist world. Now try with your 90% business. By the way, both are American.

He does, and it's awesome. I love the performance of Moon is Mine from that set.

90% (okay, maybe 80%) of bass players are nothing to write home about. Jomei, you may be able to play Jun's riffs but I would also wager that you could play many other bassist riffs too. There are some exceptions to be sure but their ain't many, at least not when it comes to rock. Most bass players don't have a whole lot of variation from one to the next.
Sheer, I know who Billy Sheehan and John Myung but Billy Sheehan??? Are you kidding me??? Maybe I didn't understand your statement (it was kind of cryptic) but he's not much better than Jerry Dixon or Nikki Sixx which ain't sayin' much.
Good rock and roll bass players IMO are Flea, Tetsu from L'Arc~en~Ciel, Gene Simmons, (of course that one may be an unfair statement considering the rest of KISS is pretty much talentless so I suppose anyone could stand out when playing with them) and I honestly can't think of another. Not that the rest of them are bad but they don't typically do anything spectacular either.

Where would Funny Bunny be without Jun? Only slightly as good.

You deny the Eddie Van Halen of the bass guitar his due? I suppose I am a bit biased, as I consider Mr. Big's Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert to be two of the best when it comes to their respective instruments, but to say that he is not a good - or great - bassist is...well, wrong. To say that Nikki Sixx or Jerry Dixon even compares i...like saying that Kurt Cobain compares to Yngwie Malmsteen (hint: he doesn't; insert "Eric Clapton" for "Yngwie Malmsteen" if you are anti-Yngwie). One other bassist to note is Cliff Burton, but he's dead, so that wouldn't have helped my point.

Flea is overrated, mostly because he does non-rock stuff on a rock band, most bassists suck musically. Altough Jun is perhaps has the least talent of all three who have worked with the pillows he's perfectly able to do what's he supposed to, concerning composition. In my foot for the first time I feel that it would have been unfit to have kashima.

My Foot isn't worthy of Kashima.

Yeah, I agree. Different music styles call for different styles of play. Kashima and Jun play differently, so...

I like Suzuki, but I will admit that Kashima is a lot better.
Some of the things Jun has done are pretty good. (Last Dinosaur, THR, etc)

I'm not really following this thread, blah blah, etc etc. But I know I saw something about Flea, and other bass players. But there should be no talk of bass guitar playing, without mention of this man:

Les muthafuckin Claypool. I had the great pleasure of meeting him, and essentially, he's a god.

Theres nothing wrong with simplicity, sometimes thats what it takes to sound good. Just because you can play it doesnt mean its bad, if he was just doing a bunch of complicated stuff that you cant play, itd probably sound like crap.
