I'm assuming this is strictly solid body talk? Fender doesn't have a hollow body line. They have some semi-hollow teles and stuff, but not full on hollow. That's what I meant when I said they are different. I play jazz, so if I could afford one I'd buy a Gibson for that. I dig my strat for alternative, or jazz/rock sounds. I would rather have a jackson or something like that for Shred, as it responds A LOT easier, and the humbuckers give a more clear sound through the fast runs.

gibsons quality control has gone WAY down, while their prices have shot WAY up. i'd almost take an epiphone over a brand new gibson. and i hate epiphone..

that doesnt mean i wouldnt love a vintage gibson..

I was searching around ebay and kinda got myself in a jam. I couldn't decide whether to buy a Gibson SG or Fender Strat. I'm probably going to go with the Fender now.

Try them out in a music store first. See what sound and feel suits you.

I have a Gibson Melody Maker and I've never even thought about getting a new guitar.

Totally depends on the sound you are trying to achieve. Anyway, I can't even vote on this because I like them both. I will say that Gibsons are too heavy for me so I prefer to play a Strat but that's the only reason.

I've only seen one. I wasn't saying anything about a melody maker. I was just saying that I have a crappy guitar that I regret buying.

Vintages win, both of them. And that settles it.
