Sayonara Universe - . After many listens it feels more and more everytime to me like a successor to Hybrid Rainbow. Many of you will disagree with me I know, but after awhile, it all sinks in and you really can see where it has that Hybrid Rainbow feel.
i agree with you, i had the same thoughts listening to Sayonara Universe
More like rip-off of the aforementioned Noboranai Taiyou.
How so? It's no way in comparrison to Noboranai Taiyou besides the slow tempo and the vocals.

There is no way I'm the only one who sees this similarity.

i'd say it's closer to 'noboranai taiyou' than to 'hybrid rainbow'. 'hybrid rainbow' has a strong feeling of hope in it, the other two songs don't.
but whereas in 'so long universe' he's accepted his fate and is ready to say good-bye to everything, 'noboranai taiyou' is just... sad and flat, like he's given up.

Long-time reader, first-time poster.
Before I say anything about the rest of MY FOOT, I'd just like to make it clear that "ROCK'N'ROLL SINNERS" is the most horrific, irritating pillows song I've ever heard. Those of you giving it slightly higher footing than "Degeneration," I understand, but, in my opinion, "Degeneration" is, at the very least, an attempt to do SOMETHING different in the course of the album, despite the fact that this something different is very boring and repetitive. "SINNERS" is basically "LB" and "RH" the third time around, with a substandard melody for good measure.
Now that that's out of the way, I find every other song on the album, for the most part, great. The title track is utterly fantastic (a proven fact now, methinks) and hell, I even really like "Mighty lovers." It's catchy to an irritating extent, but hey, so was "like a lovesong" (of course, I'm not saying it's anywhere near the quality of "like a lovesong," but whatev).
I fail to see the similarities between "Noboranai Taiyou" and "Sayonara Universe," but I was really kind of vexed over "Kuchuu Rejistaa" for its chord progression's extreme similarities to "Bubbletown's Happy Zoo." Maybe we're just looking at things from different angles. For me, the arrangement and the presence of strings (!) in "Sayonara Universe" make me really happy, because it almost-kinda-sorta halfway signifies that... maybe something different lies in the pillows' future instead of continuing to wallow in the shadow of the holy trinity.
Unfortunately, I feel the same way about the Fiction version of "My Girl," so I was a bit disappointed when I heard the album version, but I've since warmed up to it.
Also, when Sawao isn't ultra-engaged in his downstrumming, the guitar interplay on this record is fantastic.
So yes, much more consistent than either Good Dreams or Penalty Life and filled with even better songs, generally. Damn good record.

^^Feel the same way about Kuuchuu Rejisuta as you do about Sinners. I do NOT understand what people see in that song. Most "filler" song I've heard from the pillows' newer albums. The verse, chorus, bridge, everything is just grating in my opinion...until 1:50 when the secondary verse kicks in - I love that. Overall, I just think it screams 'mediocrity', which, if you know my taste in pillows music well...is extremely hard to get to.
By the way, if you haven't yet checked out the lyrics for Rock 'n' Roll Sinners yet...do so now. "Some seagulls are flying in the air" ? That's golden.

Well, for me, the holy trinity was always Living Field, PML, and LB, but that works.

Yeah I saw Culen talk about them on a forum from 2003. He suggested TYMT and PML. Haha. He changed
