'Very similar', I know they weren't the same. n__n()
But, they're alike not in the positioning on the fretboard but the order and the patterns in which he hits the notes. Likewise, one song reminds me of the other because of that.
Maybe I'm crazy, but the verse to 'One Life' reminds me of 'Bran-New Lovesong' a lot, too.

Killing Field (and to a lesser extent, Happy Slave) has some very bluesy guitar playing, but it seems more in the style of the late-sixties/ classic rock than SRV, BB King, etc. So I can understand why that wouldn't be as obvious.

No Self Control greater than Slow Down. By far. The quirky sound works great with NSC, not nearly as well with slow down. And they do the changing tempo thing much better on Curly Rudy.

You're mistaking funk for blues. His playin on The Killing Field is more akin to early Red Hot Chili Peppers than to any blues.
