Post Boogiepop Phantom
A lot of people hated Boogiepop, mostly giving the reason that it was difficult (at best) to understand. I agree with this, but I find it to be a positive statement, since it's enjoyable to not have the story arc forced upon you and instead be given the pieces of the puzzle and have to solve for yourself. It makes you think rather than just being some anime to watch by showing you little points of view in the form of stories from people who witnessed or were touched somehow by the subject matter-- Just as if you were asking people about it and getting only what they told you. This is why, as I've been asked, that each volume (episode) is from the point of view of a different person for the most part.

Am I the only one around that adored this work?

i liked what i watched of it. i enjoyed the creepy ambience and the disjointed, puzzling story. unfortunately i never got around to finishing it. :(

it's true, it was confusing because it seemed like every episode was about something different, but it was cool when stuff gradually started to connect. i had a particularly hard time keeping track because it'd be weeks between watching consecutive episodes. ;;^^ i think if i went and watched it all at once, it would start to come together better.

I liked it to the extent of waking up 4am to watch it (not that I couldn't sleep and played it on vcr, it just aired that time). If I have time I plan on watching it again.

The air time did kind of bother me...Even though I have to be up at 4 A.M anyway (7 A.M guitar practice and a lot of junk to do beforehand...), it's still nice not to have to think about something that early. It's best watched in marathon, being 12 episodes or so, and can be most appreciated along with little breaks of music by Tsuneo Imahori and Mars Volta (...Er, personal preference but try it sometime and see if it isn't enjoyable.)

There are also a huge load of comics for it, but I've got all of both the anime and the manga of it and honestly, the anime is better this time around. Lots of fan comics with pretty artwork, too.

There's a nice site called www.animecornerstore.com (Forgive me if it's not what I remember it being, the last time I went there was awhile ago; And stay out of the 'adult' section. x_x;) that sells tons of everything anime...And I do mean -everything-. You can even find very obscure ones there if the site is the same as it was last I shopped, conveniently sectioned to separate more questionable material from regular anime and comics, etc. Their selection is massive and their prices are cheap; the quality is also good, which makes me doubt bootlegging but I'm not sure. It's apparently based in California and actually has a physical store if you're in the area, or so I read. Probably just a warehouse.

I saw BP there for about $15 per package, which is about $5 cheaper than the lowest price I found at places like Suncoast (Which barely stocked any of it.)...I also got my Furi Kuri collector's artbox set there for about $35, which Suncoast wanted an outrageous $50 for, instantly gaining my contempt. The $110 they want for the Gungrave boxset is too steep, too.

Also, Carnival, story wise...They weren't useless, persay, just normal or average. Boogiepop and the Piper wanted them because they had some form of guilt or regret, and this fear and anxiety was what Boogiepop Phantom fed on. Boogiepop herself is merely the angel of death, which explains why the two go against one another. The Phantom was an illusiory copy created by the pillar of light. The Manticore also fed on similar energies...

...As did Chounuchi-kun, as seen in episode 2, with the odd bugs he ate from people's chests. These are the same sorts of things that Phantom consumes, and are the anxious feelings in their hearts. That's why nobody else sees them as physical entities, as well, and why Chounuchi-kun has such an affinity for chests. -Cough.-

I've put waaaaay too much time into researching this, ne? u_X;

I liked the episode with the guy obsessed with dating sims. I think it was episode five.

Am I the only one that think that show had an awesome intro song?
Am I the only one that think that show had an awesome intro song?
No! That song was in my top 10 a little while back. It's called "Yuudachi"/"Evening Shower". Forgot who it's by. Amazing song. Kickass.

By the way: http://boogiepop.home.att.net/

^^Extremely helpful resource on Boogiepop, however...

...I've decided not to put a lot of time into deciphering the entire plotline of Boogiepop, or for that matter trying to dig deep into the meaning of it. To me, BP (like Evangelion) is just something you should watch and...absorb. They're both great series, but I dont think it's neccessary to try to figure out the details.

By the way, the Boogiepop Soundtrack in general is just amazing. DL/Buy that shit.

Boogiepop seems like a mesh between Lain and Paranoia Agent. All the needless jargen sorrounding an event while looking for a culprate that may or may not be there.

That said, it's one of personal faves, at least from that era. I haven't heard of the comics, but I'm looking forward to the novels that are being published ...soon, I hope.

Sorry, I...Disappeared for awhile. x.@

I'm glad to see so many people who're fond of it, I have a lot of trouble finding anyone into anime at all locally, let alone for things without obvious plots like BP...And Paranoia Agent is a favorite of mine, as well.

And, no, Busterken. The show's soundtrack is amazing to me-- Especially "Angel In The Dark".

I may have mentioned earlier, too, but my favorite episode was No. 2. Chounuchi-Kun will always be my favorite...I even played him in para for awhile. >.>;
