Post sad sappy suckers for modest mouse?
To go out on a bit of a limb, perhaps, are there any others around here with a taste for Isaac Brock's sour grapes? Maybe a favorite album and song from some of you...And if we can just be mature enough to ignore the thread if you dislike the band? Yes, that would be great, let's act like grown ups. x_x

Anyway...I'd have to go with 'This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About' or 'The Moon & Antarctica' for an album. 'Bury Me With It' and 'Life Like Weeds' are probably my favorites for individual songs.

Also, does anyone else notice that a lot of people, especially people unfamiliar with or new to the group's material, accuse Isaac of being very depressed or depressing? I also notice a lot of people who for some reason have a huge problem with the non-traditional guitar playing. Isaac and Dann do make some very odd sounds, and the types of blends they make with their effects are virtually indecipherable-- At least, I can't possibly find a way to make my guitar sound anything like theirs do, despite probably playing the exact same notes. Eric's bass is something else I'm fond of, for the fact that he actually uses it instead of simply backing up the rhythm. This is also why I'm always so pleased with Suzuki-san's playing in the pillows and Les Claypool's in Primus (Especially the latter.), because they're not afraid to make a bass sound good rather than just fading into the backround to make it sound full. This is a good quality too, but sometimes you don't want to be bored to tears by your low-end, ne?

...Anyway. Thoughts, anyone?

So you've never heard anything Kashima played? Cause he was way more creative than Jun.

Yes, I've heard Kashima's work and I'd agree with you normally, if not for how much I like Jun's work as fragments. It's mostly coincidence that most of my favorite pillows songs came about after Jun started playing with them in 1999 (I cite Last Dinosaur as my favorite pillows song of all time.), even if it's still been Sawao, Shin-chan and Manabe writing most of the music since they lost a permanent bassist. Although, one thing I wonder is why they don't make him an official member if he's been with them for some 5 or 6 years now? He's good enough, at least.

...Any, back on topic. I'd be glad to talk bass or whatever else with you any time though, because you present a good point.
