I've been re-listening Evil Empire recently. It would be their best album if Year of the Boomerang wasn't such a shitty last song.

It's too inconsistent for me. The lyrics are good, though.
Still, that album is fucking sweet. Bulls on Parade, Down Rodeo, Tire Me, they're all good.

The screwdriver thing is straight from the Sonic Youth textbook of making strange sounds on the guitar. Most of the long noise freakouts on their 80's albums are very screwdriver fueled.
