Wait in minute now kelp, in all fairness there are plenty of people here who try to force why people shouldn't like it in other peoples faces. That doesn't mean you do it, but other people do and that's what bothers me. Also the fact that this IS a pillows site, not a bash the pillows site. If someone doesn't like it fine, not a problem but don't try to bitch slap people into not liking it as well and them continue to bash then on place that is MEANT to support them.
and then Sawao puts out a no frills punk/garage rock mini album that basically says screw you
That makes no sense.

1.) The predators are neither punk nor garage. The predators sounds very produced. I could recommend some punk/garage music, and you would see it is nothing like the predators.

Nothing.

Go listen to Outta Here or Four From the Bottom.

2.) How does an album with a "screw you" message get automatically excused from being mediocre. I don't get it. Are you saying that becuase sawao knows it's shit, that it's okay?

Yes, an explanation is well deserved.

Haha... could you really recommend some music that sizes up those genres for me?? Makes no sense huh? I must have confused them with indie/retro or lofi/noise. Wow... your narrow-mindedness knows no bounds. I stand by what I said. Next thing you know, you're going to tell me that they're J-rock.

Also, kelp... you keep jumping the gun. I think you are looking for people to disagree with or something because it was pretty hard to miss the 15 or so times I have said I think they kick ass. Let me break this down for ya:

I like the sounds they make in their 3-piece rock band format.
I think they are a good band. And to quote Sawao, "Yeah!"

But otherwise kelp, you usually have good points. Keep that ish up.

As for Ciidric - if you consider "shut up" to be that effective... why aren't you posting on the Linkin Park board? "Shut up when I'm talking to you! Shut up! Shut up!" I think you would find that group refreshing.

And Catfish... you so crazy. You like, totally win at the explaining what's punk game.

But in spirit with what kelp has been trying to say... I don't think it is anti-pillows to not like "Hunting!". But the idea that those of us that do really like it are making excuses for why it is okay to like it doesn't make sense. I really like 2 of the 3 songs I have heard so far because they are good songs. I was not telling you why it is dumb that you don't like it, I was stating the obvious... they aren't playing these songs for you(s). And if any pillows fan can't appreciate what they are doing - it might, just might, not be their fault.

Wow, I crack a joke and he attacks me with linkin park. Just trying to lighten the mood... Calling someone narrow-minded is one of the most narrow-minded things you can do, by the way.
You know what? Just... no. I'm not going to bother arguing, I've already stated what I think of the band. The three songs I've heard are pretty mediocre - I'll leave it at that. There may be some cool music yet to be found, but so far I am dissapointed. Likewise, if you can enjoy this music without feeling the need to defend it, then be my guest. Can we put this topic to rest now?

Calling someone narrow-minded just for calling someone narrow-minded (regardless of merit) is awfully narrow-minded.

I kid.

Yeah, that works... although it is assuming that I thought this was an argument. We will just wait to hear the whole record.

The fact is, you made a completely inaccurate statement about what the predators sound like, and I corrected you.

I agree completely. I disapprove of both sides forcing whatever opinions they have.

nevermind. not worth it.

I know you think you know exactly what you're talking about catfish... but I think you underestimate who you are talking to. You were splitting hairs, and it was foolish. None-the-less... if you would like to debate genre... I can help you understand why you over-simplified what I said if not, even better. Next topic.

Really? Because I don't know whether I should respond to this or gouge my eyes out.

I like how you label the predators as a certain genre, and then to defend that statement you pretend that classifying music is narrow-minded or naive.

Drop the bullshit enlightenment crap. If we don't have a basic form of musical nomenclature we can't talk about it in a coherent way. R&B sounds different than shoegaze. That’s why they have two seperate genres

You think? Is shoegaze different that R&B? Don't waste my time. Let me break it down for you: this isn't a form of punk inspired rock and roll? This isn't the type of stuff that Sawao probably played in a garage somewhere when he was younger, 4 chord rock? And what next... nirvana wasn't a punk rock band? You over-simplify. That is a big test if someone is just the local know-it-all... if they know that nirvana was a punk band or not. You should probably relent and read what I first wrote again. This bores me. Next.

God. How am I supposed to argue with you? Every time I present an argument to one of your statements, you respond by jumping to something unrelated or by resorting to condescending idioms and sarcasm

Let me break it down for you.

iamjetblack: The predators are garage/punk.
catfish: No they aren't.
iamjetblack: You’re naive. You can’t label music so simply like that.
catfish: Yes you can. You just did.
iamjetblack [attempt to end debate with feigned boredom and cocky BS]

My big test is if someone says that above statement.

This thread has enough crap already. Start a new one about this if you care about this shit.

Let's get a couple of things straight. The Predators are not "no-frills punk." It's just rock and roll, plain and simple. I also really don't think the point of the album is to say "screw you" to the fans.

Some of us like the shit. Some of us don't. I wish people would not accuse each other of not being able to handle/appreciate music that they don't like. I can understand how someone would really like the predators' music. I don't like it as much as the pillows, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate or can't handle ( ) the predators.

I wouldn't call it 'rock and roll' though. I'd call it pop-rock or maybe just pop.
